Carrick Felix traded to Jazz for Lucas, Murphy, and Thomas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
this locks the Cavs over the cap for trade purposes.

Yes, and he was awful here in Maccabi, and also he and Blatt didn't really get along with each other.

He may just be a trade piece. Maccabi signed him for a reason, it just didn't pan out. I'm sure that Blatt saw him working out and playing in Vegas. He probably talked to him as well. You never know, Thomas may have matured and the issues between Blatt and him may have subsided. He has the potential to be a nice depth guy in the front court. It sounds like he wanted to be a starter at Maccabi and got bent out of shape when he didn't get the minutes.

this sounds like you are wrong:

I wonder if the Cavs had the cap space or a trade exception that let them swing this deal?

Guess so. May mean he'll be moving on somewhere else down the road.

Combination of both. My guess is that it was filed as several separate deals and reported as one. I'd wager that the Lucas contract was absorbed through cap space. The other deals are all minimums and you always have a player minimum exception. I'd bet Harris was signed with some cap space, then the paper work was submitted for the Lucas trade then the other two player minimums.

Surely this isn't done if minny deal isn't coming.

Curse of the Cavs summer league strikes again. Zeller, Hopson, Karasev, Felix all gone. Wiggins and Bennett rumored to be on their way. Are Delly, Harris, and Powell safe?!

Blatt must have really not liked what he saw in Vegas :chuckles:

Turns out that the summer league was more of a meat market than a training session. Pretty crazy.

From strictly a basketball standpoint, this isn't a horrible trade for the Cavaliers. Thomas has shown as much promise as Felix as a professional, and offers a skill (rim protection) in short supply in Cleveland. He's the one player in the group with a real chance to stick on the Cavaliers' roster. Still, this trade is more about the cap than it is the players involved.

I've actually watched a fair amount of Erik Murphy as I'm from Florida. The guy is big, played under Billy Donovan for four years, and actually had three point range in college. If he ends up sticking around, might even be useful saying that we're kind of thin on bigs

Either way, he won't have much to worry about. My best bet seems like these 3 have been acquired to help facilitate a deal with a third team. Hearing mixed reports though.. Can they now be re-traded immediately? I know some of you have said 60 days but others have said we can move them right now if we wanted to?
