Cavs sign Chris Crawford again

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't get the guaranteed money part either

Partial, could be 50k of a 2 year league min deal. Enough to get him to sign the team favorable deal.

He's arguing his assumptions as if they are facts.

What factual background or basketball related information did he post about Chris Crawford to support his argument?

Okay, the insult was a little lost on me. Wasn't sure why you called him that

I don't know of anybody until the NBA, college basketball is like non-existent unless a Durant or Melo is dominating lol.

How much do training camp invitees typically get? I'm guessing this guy got less than $50K, given that the Cavs could approach the luxury tax if they take on much more salary (I did the calculations in another thread, but if they trade the 3 Utah guys for a $5M player/contract, they will be very close). There's not much in this guy's record that suggests he has an NBA career in front of him.

That said, in answer to a question someone raised, one guy who had a sub-40% FG% in in his final year in college and is an NBA player is none other than Dellavedova. Delly did have a respectable 55% TS% his senior year at St Mary's though, so that FG% is a bit deceiving.

Looks like the kid can shoot, but not much else.

I don't get the guaranteed money either. Doesn't make sense to me since Crawford isn't exactly a big time prospect. Cavs have to now be mindful of the luxury tax and possible future repeater tax penalties. Every little bit of money matters.
Crawford just strikes me as a training camp invite which is why I don't think they needed to give him any type of guarantee.

I live in Memphis and have seen Crawford live and on TV a lot.
He had games where he was on fire and games where he couldn't throw it in the ocean.

Regardless of how hot he is shooting he is a max effort guy that plays pretty good defense and can fill in at the point when needed.
Joe Jackson was the starting point guard and last year Memphis used a 4 guard rotation of Jackson, Crawford, Michael Dixon and Geron Johnson.
Crawford usually started at SG and got the 2nd most minutes of the four guards.

Crawford shot 36.9% overall and 37.3% from 3 and 65.5% form the FT line.
He had a 1.94 to 1 Assist to TO ratio last year.
I see him as an extra PG for training camp.

Delly should easily beat him out.

According to Eric Pincus, Crawford has $20K guaranteed in the first year.

Kid is already gone

What we need to look at is who else his agent represents. We just did a 20k favor for an agent, or Crawford just got a better offer overseas.

I thought that $20K was a bonus for playing in Canton.

If he was going to play overseas, the season starts a bit later there, so he could have completed training camp at least, but it does seem very possible that he got a better offer than Canton and backed out. But then again, it could have just been plain old nepotism.

Along with all of Babcock’s direct experience within the basketball world, he also grew up in a “basketball family”. He learned how the business works alongside his father, Dave Babcock, Vice President of Player Personnel for the Milwaukee Bucks, and his two uncles, Pete and Rob Babcock, both of whom have been long time NBA executives and currently hold front office positions with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively.

Haynes writes that it is official:

Unrelated to the transaction, as Northeast Ohio Media Group first reported, the Cavaliers waived Chris Crawford, the undrafted guard out of Memphis. This brings the number of camp bodies down to 16 from 20.

Goodbye Chris Crawford, we hardly knew you.

Only one more re-signing and he'll have joined the team more often than Mike Brown or Lebron James!

But seriously, looks like he's back on track to get waived again and go to Canton in November.
