Cuyahoga County Sin Tax

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Deezus' larger point is that the government should not levy a consumption tax of any form to subsidize billionaires. Think about that..

If we are to pay hundreds of millions to build stadiums, we may as well own our sports teams outright :)eek:, heaven forbid!). Appoint a local commissioner to oversee the team in the same capacity an owner would, i.e. hiring and firing GMs to run the team. Instead of enriching the already super-wealthy, let the proceeds go back into the community directly? Seems like a more efficient use of tax dollars if you ask me, and no one would ever need to worry about their team "leaving."

Here's an interesting excerpt from Huffington Post on the matter, it's worth the read.

sell the stadiums

The city wants to own the building because it keeps the team from moving, and the revenue in cleveland. It's just a matter of how they plan on paying for it. Given how state tax revenue has increased it makes sense they dont need as many taxes in place.

To me, smokers and drinkers are increasing the risk of the healthcare pool/group in which I find myself, thus increasing my costs of healthcare for the "sin" that is their choice. I'm absolutely for taxing those folks (and myself when I drink) for purposes of civic health. These clowns feel "violated" because they are helping pitch in for something that helps keep the City's heartbeat going, so they propose that people actually pay more to go to the games.

Bunch of free-loaders, if you ask me.

I'm not even sure if it matters, though.. The voices behind the campaign to keep the sin tax are much more reputable and involved than those who are trying to make a statement by voting this down. Make no mistake about it, the main folks for ending the sin tax are just trying to make a name for themselves.

No. Why should we? They bring in tons of money to the city of due to events, etc.

Give me a reason, I bet you won't find a logical one.

It's perfectly logical that he's clearly confused about the tax and has no idea what the hell he's talking about.

I see no flaws in that logic. :chuckles:

^that loser is spamming another forum I am apart of as well.

Honestly, if you can't see the big picture benefits of the sin tax, I have trouble respecting anything of your opinions.

I think you can dislike the underlying theme of giving billionaires breaks but the reality is the city is legally obligated to provide for the repairs. That means the money is coming from somewhere and I would rather it be from a sin tax than cutting needed city services.
