I actually think Waiters is a better fit to start next to Kyrie because Kyrie already plays more like a two than a one. It would make sense to put another ball handler next to him who can attack the basket and get him open looks, and that's not even mentioning that, unlike Kyrie, Dion is very much a drive and kick guy, which leads to lots of open threes.

Dion doesn't get Kyrie open looks though. Kyrie's ball handling skills and bigs who stretch the floor get Kyrie open looks. It would make sense to put a big in post who can command a double team and a high percentage shooter at the SG spot. Deng is very ideal for a SF. The problem with having two ball handlers like Kyrie and Dion is that it makes it difficult to utilize a low post threat.

Why do people keep saying this? This is the NBA. you can only play 5 guys at a time. How man teams start two PG's or two C's? Not many if any at all. It's not healthy for any team top force your best player to play with a guy who's game just doesn't fit. One guy is a two time All Star and the other is a bench player. You play to the strengths of the all star not the bench player. It benefits Dion if he starts with Kyrie more than it benefits Kyrie so why should we do it?

Because we need to know the direction that we are going to take. If these two can develop a chemistry together you can build around it. If not you need to know as soon as possible.

The more you force the two to play together the more you give them a chance to figure it out. There are a lot of times in basketball, and life where you start out hating a guy. Then you realize he can benefit you in some way and you end up needing that person and vice versa, next thing you know there is a mutual respect.

It doesn't get him enough open looks, and it certainly doesn't get other guys enough open looks. If we had a low post threat, we could worry about where they fit in at that time, but there is no reason it couldn't work since Waiters is among the best spot up shooters on the team.

And the more you do that the more you will hurt their development

Oh and some of us knew it wouldn't work on draft night when we picked Dion

It's not hurting their development playing together, it's forcing them to mature. They're the two most talented players on the roster, we need them on the court together if we want to raise the ceiling of this team. They both need to sacrifice parts of their individual games for this to work, something they're both still struggling with.

THAT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE STILL DEVELOPING!!!!!

They are still in the process of building an identity for their game and you want them to get away from that and focus on each other. These aren't 7+ year vets who know who they are and what their place is in the league. They are young developing players. Why do you want to force them in a situation that is not at strength for either of them. Kyrie and Dion playing off of each other is not gonna turn this franchise around. Your're askking both of these guys to change their whole approach to the game but for what?

I'd blame that more on our terrible offense than on some innate inability of Kyrie and Dion to play off each other. The offense should be designed about two ball handlers opening up the floor for each other and tons of movement, not around single pick and rolls and constant isolations. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to get these two guys to play together. They both have complimentary games. The problem is that everyone seems to want to shoehorn Kyrie in as the point guard and Dion in as the two-guard when, in reality, they can both play each role at varying times.

A smart offense would take advantage of that. Our offense is neither smart nor well-designed, especially when you take into account the unique talents of our two best guards.

Neither one of them should "have the ball in his hands". They ought to pass the ball around. All the good teams do it. Find the highest percentage shot. I'd like to see the usage of both Kyrie and Dion be reduced and their eff go up.

Having the ball in their hands implies playing point guard, as in bringing the ball up the court and initiating the offense. It doesn't mean no passing at all, just as it doesn't mean they should practice nothing but isolation. The idea is that Waiters and Irving should take turns with this duty, and that the offense should be structured around taking advantage of their talents rather than trying to shoehorn one or the other into the static roles of point guard and two-guard that neither is totally suited for.

Are you refuting what I said? All of your post seems to agree with what I posted especially the bolded. #teamwork
