Here's a list of the guys we've drafted .vs. the guys I'd been prepped from reading the board and other sites in to thinking we'd take:

    Kyrie .vs. Kyrie
    TT .vs. JV
    Dion .vs. Drummond
    Tyler .vs. Perry Jones+Quincy Miller+Jae Crowder/Draymond Green/Doron Lamb/etc
Christian .vs. DeJuan Blair/Sam Young/Chase Budinger
    Hickson .vs. Koufos
Shannon .vs. Farmar/Collins/Gibson (I really wanted us to find a way to trade up for Rondo)
    Luke .vs. Josh Smith/Jameer Nelson

The Ferry picks are looking pretty dubious, I sure hope Grant's picks shape up.

Now, I could have gone full blown hindsight, but I tried to only list players that I was expecting we'd consider taking when our number was announced.

One thing's just not like the others. One thing just doesn't belong....

Jon, since when did Ferry or Grant draft Luke Jackson?

    Did we not draft TT?

Are you really going to list Drummond as the only other guy we thought about taking in that draft?

I think Barnes is more accurate than Drummond. Most people had us marked down as taking Barnes.

How can you forget the biggest debate, TT vs. Jonas?!

Also, you thought we were gonna take Drummond? I had convinced myself that Charlotte would take Thomas Robinson so we'd have our choice of MKG or Beal. If not, most thought we'd take Harrison Barnes.

Also, Kyrie could very easily be Kyrie vs. Kyrie/Williams, as there were more than a few people, both on the internet, in the Cavs front office, and among the media, who wanted us to take Williams instead.

You've overlooked the great Ejike Ugboaja/Loukas Mavrokefalidis debate of '06

So I take it we are no longer debating Tristan Thompson. Which is good, because it's pretty clear he made the correct call on that one.

We traded up to grab Zeller, so why's he even on the list? Sites didn't know we'd trade up. Also we should have taken Blair.

Yeah, that Eyenga swing and miss is really the only thing that still sticks in my crawl. OTOH, Blair could probably be had very cheap right now. Wouldn't mind Grant taking a swing at him for a backup big.

Yeah but we can debate about other guys who are still on the board at the pick we traded up for.

It's a hell of a lot easier picking in the top 5 than drafting 19 and after. You better draft well with your high picks. Also one GM was in win now mode while the other is in rebuild and wins don't matter mode.

There were also a lot of members here who advocated Drummond at #4 before the draft.

Question: When TRob dropped, a good chunk of the board thought missing out on Valanciunas got even worse, including myself. At the time, a TRob-Valanciunas front court sounded great. Where would we be at had we gone that route?

We would have one of the worst records in the league.

We currently don't have one of the worst records in the league? :chuckles:

I personally still am advocating for Drummond now even after the draft.

Re: Draft Battle: Chris Grant & Danny Ferry .vs. Conventional Board Wisdon

Thanks, I added TT, and yes, there were plenty of other players talked about on the board, but my focus was on the names I was expecting to be called at the time our number came up in each of those drafts.

I'm trying to avoid hindsightitis by focusing on my own thoughts/assumptions.
