Draft Battle: Chris Grant & Danny Ferry .vs. Conventional Board Wisdom

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Draft Battle: Chris Grant & Danny Ferry .vs. Conventional Board Wisdon

Question: When TRob dropped, a good chunk of the board thought missing out on Valanciunas got even worse, including myself. At the time, a TRob-Valanciunas front court sounded great. Where would we be at had we gone that route?

I find it far more satisfying when the GM turns out to have been smarter than me. I think some folks prefer it the other way.

I like when both myself and the GM turn out to have been the smartest. A win all around. :)

Wayyyyy to early to count out Thomas Robinson, just as it was way too early to count out TT. The Kings are playing the fifth pick in the draft 15mpg and his per 36's are good, but not all indicative of the growth he'd probably experience getting that 30+ mpg. He's been coached by literally the worst coach currently in the game and maybe one of the worst ever.

He took Isaiah's strong finish as a potentially solid PG and crushed his confidence by benching the shit out of him and taking him off the ball.

If Thomas Robinson were lucky enough to get traded, I bet he'd explode. Until then, he'll have to deal with Keith Smart's inability to stick to a rotation and Smart ignoring him in favor of the vaunted Jason Thompson/ James Johnson/ Chuck Hayes trio.

Smart needed to be fired two weeks before they even hired him.

So I take it we are no longer debating Tristan Thompson. Which is good, because it's pretty clear he made the correct call on that one.

THIS is amazing.

TT has shown some greatg strides in year 2 after being allowed to grow on the job and looking just as bad early this year as a starter... but they are great strides from the dog shit he looked like for a majority of the first year and some change.

I STILL take JV over TT, and I am convinced that taking TT last summer kept us from taking Drummond this summer, so until our starting 5 is established, I will lament the TT pick, regardless of his ability to put up 12 & 10 at pf

This thread is to hindsightitis what lubricants are to masturbation.

A disturbing, yet accurate assessment.

Mid-1st picks are "fit" picks, hence Zeller over some of the upside younger guys.

In order to bring this thing all together, I actually masturbated to some hindsight a few minutes ago.

If we didn't take Drummond because we took TT, then there's no way we'd have taken if if we'd drafted JV.

Personally, I think there isn't enough information to be convinced that it was TT that prevented us from taking Drummond. I think the reason we didn't take Drummond is because of how our FO evaluated Drummond. That's particularly true because of TT's lackluster first year performance. No GM in his right mind would pass up a franchise center just because they drafted a PF the prior year who appeared to be a major disappointment. That just doesn't make sense to me.

That said, if we took JV I'm convinced we'd pass on Drummond as well. Entering this summer JV was still on contract with a Euro team and could have used it as leverage to force the team's hand, not to mention his agent was trying to steer him away from us on draft day. If we drafted Drummond, we could have another Rubio situation on our hands where he decides to just stay over in Europe rather than compete for playing time with another young player at his position. If we drafted JV, I'd guess we'd end up with either Dion or T-Rob.

I think Drummond kept us from taking Drummond. He played like shit at UCONN and reportedly got smoked by Thomas Robinson in 1on1 workouts. Yeah, maybe we missed on that one, but it's not as if Drummond was anything other than potential and a shit ton of question marks.

Jon was doomed from the time he started a thread. There's a dozen or more posters that just lie in wait for one of Jon's posts to have a mistake in it somewhere.

And even when I don't make a mistake.. but they're having fun trying to snipe my posts and I'm having fun firing back... So it's all good.

I think both koufas and Arthur were supposed to have gone earlier. On the board there was a lot of talk about McGee and speights but they were gone. Koufas sure had his detractors, but I thought we'd take him to learn under z. Made to much sense... well to me.

I think bad/fearful prospect analysis kept us from taking Drummond.

I think the same had us take TT over JV.

I dont want the trend to continue.

The Cavs didn't take Drummond because they don't think his game will translate to star level in the pros. Nothing I have seen, changes that opinion.

Once again, this board tries way to hard and misses the main point.
