sorting out the defense?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They weren't great in the first half, but it is really good to see this consistent effort on d for multiple quarters and even game to game.

I'm also loving the coaching adjustments. Things that burn the team in the first half rarely continue in the second.

Ding ding ding. HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS!

I almost forgot what they were after 10 years of not seeing them.

I wonder when were gonna stop switching pick and rolls

Our bigs are guarding guards for 80% of the game because of switches and we are really wondering why out defense sucks.

We need some one on one accountability

One thing they need to do is what they early against Charlotte..keep everyone in front and not let people just cut in behind them.

Negative, boys. This is now firmly a bottom 10 defensive squad.

Game in game out we let some random no name player go off on us. I think this experiment has failed us. The team just needs to learn how to defend the pick/screen and roll/pop. I don't even think the Globe Trotters shot 65% against the Generals... We're out of position all game. Dion is James Harden on defense.

Holy hell one of the worse defensive performances I've ever seen. They always seem to make bench scrubs look like allstars.

It's just one game. They still have a lot work to do on the defensive end but, they'll be alright. I still think they can take the east with top 17 defensive efficiency. Making it to the finals in LeBron's first year back would be quite an accomplishment if you consider the facts, a rookie head coach with no NBA experience and no defensive presence on the wings or in the paint, tbh.

Is it time to revert back to the original thread title yet?

The whole season, the team has been getting on Kyrie to go through screens.

On this play, Kyrie watches Lebron run down the court to get easy points after giving up on his man... WITHOUT EVEN BEING SCREENED.

Kyrie watched the whole thing.

What do you think Kyrie was thinking after watching Lebron do that?

Hey, so LeBron James isn't the primary reason our defense sucks, I guess.

I have another theory. All of our players suck at defense. The only guy on the roster who made a career of playing elite defense is too old to do it now (Marion). The only other guy who has played elite defense at points in his career doesn't feel like doing it all the time (James). And then the only guy who played above average defense for large portions of his career is hurt for the season, but even before that was too old and worn down to play at that level anymore (Andy).

After that, it's a team of minus defenders. There are guys who have the tools to be good at defense, like Waiters, but they aren't and they never have been. There are guys who play hard on defense, but are too athletically limited to play it well for any length of time, like Delly. And then there are just the flat turnstiles who are straight up embarrassments on that end, like Mike Miller.

Something I thought of today - coaching offense is relatively easy and can translate from one league to another compared to defense.

I'm not going to pretend that I know how our coaching system is working, so is Blatt even involved on that side of the ball, or is it just Lue? Maybe Blatt needs a year to figure out NBA offenses before implementing a system, because I'm not really seeing any differences from last year. Lue certainly does not inspire confidence.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Cavs should've hired a competent defensive head coach. Yes, the Cavs clearly don't have the players to play hard-nosed grit and grind defense like the Bulls, Grizzlies, etc, but they wouldn't have to. A good dbe able to bring the best defensive efforts even out of guys like Kevin Love, etc.He would challenge everyone to play hard on the defensive end. Defense creates offense. The offense wouldn't be much of an issue with the team forcing stops and scoring points off of turnovers, etc.

I hear Mike Brown is available. Fuck, we are paying him anyway, he might as well work for it.
