sorting out the defense?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The bigs are supposed to be the last line of defense, yes the guards/wings need to a much better job stopping penetration, but penetration will eventually happen no matter what, its the job of the bigs to make it hard for guards & wings to finish inside, its that simple, how can you disagree that the bigs have been beyond terrible in doing so?

I agree that the defensive gameplan looks horrible & it makes it harder for everybody, still doesn't excuse the horrible rim protection & lack of basic defensive technique while using the rule of vertically under the basket.

I urge you to go back and re-watch that game. Watch how many buckets Lopez and Gibson get off a dump off from Rondo or Butler when TT or Love or Frye step up to stop them, or how many times those 3 had to eat fouls and send a wing or guard to the line.

That's how I can disagree...it's not as simple as you are making it seem. Are bigs the last line? Yes, but if they are constantly trying to cover the wings and guards asses by stopping penetration, their guys are the ones who score if the penetrating wing or guard makes a simple drop off pass, which again, Rondo is very, very good at, as we saw tonight.

Unfair to expect Love or Tristan or Frye to not only stop penetration from the perimeter, but still guard their man as well while doing so...

Difference with gsw's lack of interior defense is that they score at a historic rate, the cavs if not hitting 3's have uninspired offensive sets.. If we cant defend, lets just out pace and out score the opponents..

FYI...just realized there might be a miscommunication here...I'm not completely disagreeing that our interior defense is struggling right now...I was completely disagreeing with you blaming just Love and TT for the points in the paint figure.

Gonna bump this. Not because of the Warriors game.

Because the Cavs have held only two opponents under 100 points over the last month.

I know the team doesn't need to be a defensive juggernaut during the regular season, but they could be, well, better.

Defensively we are a step slow.. I dont get the hard hedge strategy.. It puts pressure on the bigs to recover.. And our bigs, with the exemption of tt, are unathletic... They're freaking slow... Hope we simplify our defense for the sake of kyrie and love..

Both the offense and defense have been putrid. We have nothing to hang our hat on over the last week and change.

They will...they've simplified it every year for the playoffs.

But, for the regular season, it would be a Godsend to land a very good traditional defensive C. Tristan works there when we go into switch and scramble mode in the summer, but he doesn't work making the PnR calls/protecting the paint like a true C.

Part of the reason we are hedging/hard-pressing the PnR this year is because we don't have a body to funnel PnRs to anymore, like we could do with Timo, and its causing a lot of miscommunication and missed assignments because we have to try to do too damn much every possession in order to cover for not having a traditional rim/paint protector.

Mark Cuban needs to do us a solid...

This X's 1000. Tristan is not enough of a stopper down low to be a major factor. Tristan can guard in space better than stationary down low. He is quick laterally but he's not a big enough body down low to be a major shot altering presence.

I thought it was simplified just for the regular season? Isn't that what Lue did last regular season because the defense was too complex to learn mid-season?
