Getting Rid of Cable- What am I missing?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Google fiber is supposed to be coming, iirc Fios is here. I live in an apt but have the option to get dish. In terms of cable I haven't had cable since I moved here about 4 years ago. Early adopter cord cutter here.

How many of you guys actually have tried an antenna?

I'm telling you, I used 2 amped antenas in both Lakewood and Rocky River and I could not get CBS nor Fox.

Then I used the same antena in a high rise in Lakewood and it got them, but barely.

Then I used a regular radio shack antena in Parma and I got both channels....although spotty at times.

From what I hear the signals are coming mostly from the Parma area.
Try this.
Take about 3 -6 foot of cable.put a connector on one end and split the other end or one of the other variations of how to use a coaxial cable to get OTA and see how many channels you get and what type of reception. if its good. then your buying junk antennas

It seems like every time I walk into BJ's, DirecTV is there trying to sell people packages. When they ask who I have for cable, I tell them I cut the cord 4 years ago. They say thank you and shut it down.

Anyone here use the live streaming Sling TV service? It's like 20$ a month and comes with all the Viacom's including ESPN and TNT iirc

Have an Xbox One so was thinking about getting rid of cable and picking up Sling and Netflix instead since it would cost less

I had a lot of buffering issues with it, but I also was only running 6mb/s so that could have something to do with it.

Ran it from my phone. Had a ton of buffering issues on the Xbox One. Almost little to none using it on my Roku. Only had a little bit of trouble with buffering on ESPN. TNT always worked fine for the most part.

Playstation Vue TV is growing as an BYOB cable provider. It doesnt have have the one stream at a time limitation that slingTV does although its more money for more channels it works on P3 and PS 4 and unlimited streams to non playstation devices.

my question is do they allow you to use channel apps like NBCSN, TNT, and the ESPN anywhere app so it could work with playon

Isn't it still only in like 4 markets?

I know the ESPN and TNT apps work with a slingTV login, assume it's the same for PS Vue.

Vue will have NBCSN but they are up to 6 or 7 cities now last i checked.

I just moved away from Cleveland and want to get local sports programming without dealing with too many roundabout ways of getting it. My friend has Directv in Cleveland. If I get a Slingbox, would I be able to get all of his programming without affecting how he watches it at home?

If I don't have a TV that grabs a wifi signal, do I need one to get the Slingbox stuff on the tv? If so, what would I have to get to make that happen, so I'm not just hooking my laptop up to my tv all of the time?

yea I heard the combos are a bad bet. It's worthwhile to spend the money on independent routers and modems. Thanks!
