Getting Rid of Cable- What am I missing?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
While this might not seem like big news or even that much of a discount from Verizon or T-mobile's home 5g but I think it's important because it's the first domino to fall to bring down internet prices. My guess is T-Mobile, Verizon, and At&t will start to sell 5g home internet through some of the cheaper wireless companies. Prepaid 5g home internet at good enough speeds will be like the cheap prepaid wireless plans.

The T-Mobile 5g set up is pretty good. Didn't see any drop off from my super fast cable internet and 300 less a year

Secret: you can move it around to other locations

Have yet to receive complaint for downloading torrents too

I think T-Mobile will have the most to gain by expanding 5g home internet even if it's through selling it through other wireless companies. They don't sell wired service like Verizon and At&t. My guess it won't be too long until it's at the $30-35 price point even if it's just 100mbps. Verizon and T-Mobile already offer it for that when bundled with some other their higher cell phone plans. They will get alot of happy people to dump cable and probably won't notice the change in speed especially single, couples, or smaller families.

Verizon and At&t will follow suit because wireless will most likely be cheaper to maintain than the fiber network. They can compete it more areas and as an industry possibly hit the final blow to cable.

I never thought cell phone service would become as cheap as it is now and that basically has killed home phones.

If I have my brothers login for Spectrum, is there really any reason for me continuing to have YoutubeTv? I’m trying to trim some things from my budget.

Not sure about Youtube TV and Spectrum, but I have a directv login, and I can watch anything that they have on Directv on my Firestick. Directv has an app that mirrors their program guide and anything can be selected. I can also log into any of the channel's individual apps.

Yeah that’s how it is with his Spectrum login with the different app channels. I just don’t think I can use the app.

We've had Spectrum cable for ages and their rates are going up again soon if not this month (like everything else too) and I hate that. We got minimal streaming, only Netflix that we pay for.
Looked into dropping cable and considered everything else, looked at all the streaming options, thought about FUBO and maybe an indoor antenna, etc. In the end sticking with cable. Right now it's costing me $172 month for just cable. As bad as that is I'm adjusting my outlook the cost. Streaming is too time consuming jumping around from channel to channel like I like to do. Seems like a pita to deal with most times. When I go to my sisters house to watch a streaming sporting event there's always some obstacle to deal with. IDK. With cable bam I'm right there.

Use YoutubeTV. You're all in, with HBO for <$90 a month. It's not 'streaming' the same way casting to a TV is. Buy an apple TV and you'll be much better off.

Do you have an apple tv, roku, xbox, or Samsung TV? If so you can stream the Spectrum App on there and turn in your cable boxes. That could save you on receiver fees

Thx for the info. Need to further look into options. The real issue here is the wife and her unwillingness to concede any of the channels she can't live without. Plus her not wanting to deal with anything new. After 36 years I've realized there's some truth in the saying " happy wife, happy life".

We discontinued our Armstrong cable package because they just kept jacking up the rates. Since then I've tried a number of things. I recently had both YouTubeTV so I'd get the NFL package and Bally's to get the Cavs. For awhile I was able to see all the games both in Ohio and New Mexico.

Recently some kind of geo-locating BS caught up to me while I was trying to log into Bally's in New Mexico and it locked me in to New Mexico programming, even when I came home to Ohio. I tried customer support and I couldn't get my home zip code changed back so I had to cancel Bally's. Since there is no NFL I don't need YouTubeTV any more so I replaced Bally's and YouTubeTV with Fubo so I could still watch cavs games. This was all earlier this week.

I'm just test driving it all now, seeing if it's any good. All in all I HATE this streaming shit. My wife has some subscriptions through Amazon, I have some others, we're not even sure what our monthly bill is exactly. But we have duplication of programming in some areas, just a complete pain in the ass. All I want is to be able to watch Cleveland sports and have a small selection of news and movie channels.

I miss the old DVRs where I could record games to the internal disc, then rewind and fast forward with ease and accuracy, even re-watch plays with slow motion and freeze frame. None of that with the bullshit digital streaming. Every app is different and not in any way friendly to those things, it just jumps you 15 seconds one way or the other.

I'm wondering if there's a box you can stream through that gives you the same old school capabilities that DVRs used to have for sporting events.

The only consistent good deal these days is the same consistent good deal that’s always been: rabbit ears and stealing.
