Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was at the game today and saw a humorous interaction between Irving and shump. When they came out at the end of halftime to get shots up, Kyrie was trying to practice corner threes. Shump kept hitting him in the stomach, blowing in his ear and bumping into him every time Irving shot. They were both laughing seemed to be having a great time. Can't say I ever saw that w dion and him.

Awesome stuff. Yeah DIon would have got mad he is getting so many practice threes up and would have did his "signature shot" at the other and while screaming AYE and ONE. Dion is not a team player as Shump is. Smith is really shocking me thought.

Shump played well against LA but forgot to box out a number of times. Hope that's just a bit of rust that will wear off, my count he gave up 8 points from guys he should be keeping off the glass

His dribbling is a little rusty, as well, but that should improve.

Shump diesel! Some of the plays we're making in transition now, are just scary.

I don't think you can totally neglect Shawn Marion, I'd rest his old legs and give him burst just like what happened to Bron. We were riding Shawn hard, but I think in the playoffs, he's going to be ideal to put on a guy like Paul Pierce, meanwhile Shumpert can guard either Wall or Beal.

Having a perimeter trio of Bron, Shump, and Trix is actually kinda interesting for defensive purposes. With TT and Mozgov waiting back there, we actually have a defensive 5 to be reckoned wit.

We can also field a super offensive small-ball 5 man rotation with shooters everywhere. We have a versatile club.

Shump adds so much to it. Dion could never purely focus himself on offense like JR, and never commit fully to defending like Iman. It's usually not a good move to take a guy and parse him up into two different players, but Waiters only had so much attention span. It's better to parse his talent into two players, each of which focuses intently on one side of the floor.

We're making plays in transition now that remind me of some Miami shit.

The Lakers game was the first time I saw some glimpses of the Iman Shumpert I hoped the Cavaliers were getting back in this this trade. Up until Sunday, he has been knocking off rust. I've seen glimpses of the defense and transition play, but overall he wasn't showing me enough in the half court offense to be more than a 7th or 8th man. I'm giving him a pass on it because he was out for a month with shoulder issues.

Now we are seeing a more fluid player. I still think the roster has depth issues. Ever since Marion announced he will be retiring at the end of the season, it's been clear he is putting himself on a minutes restriction, regardless of what the coaches might want.

That leaves the Cavs with Harris - who looks a year or two away from contributions - and a few dead roster positions in Haywood, Miller, Jones. When you have back to backs or long road trips, ten able bodies at the minimum us going to stretch you thin.

Though stats regarding steals does not alone define a good defender, Iman is netting 1.5spg with the Cavs. If you inflate that to per36 numbers, he would be leading the league by a wide margin. Westbrook currently grabs 2.24, Shumpert would be at 2.7spg.

Shump seems to be coming around. He is great at playing the passing lanes, leading to easy fast break opportunities...reminds me a bit of prime Wade in that regard.

He still has a tendency to play spotty man D. I was under the impression he moved quicker laterally. Perhaps he is still shaking some rust off. Perhaps his injury history has taken a bit of that away from him. I didn't see enough of him his rookie year to compare. Regardless, once he adjusts to his role a bit better, he will look better. Players like him are key to playoff victories.

He has room to grow. He's only 24 and his athleticism fits right in with Kyrie, LeBron, and Mozgov's.

He also has a cheap contract for 2015-2016.

Its crazy how the knicks never valued shump like he should be valued, he has upside talent and he is only 24 years old with elite defense, he was such a steal along with jr is crazy what a good environment will do to a player.

He has the talent and size to be much better than Dion is or will be.

Yeah, that is not yet known. He has a QO at 3.9 million, but he has to make it through restricted free agency for that to hold. Someone is going to offer him more than that and the Cavs are going to have to match if they want to keep him.

The Many Sides of Iman

You went to the same high school that produced Ernest Hemingway, Ludacris, Ray Kroc and Dan Castelleneta, the voice of Homer Simpson. What is it about Oak Park and River Forest in Chicago?

Iman Shumpert: It was great, man. Because one, it’s a public school. So you get the best of everything. I thought we got a great education there, very much prepared for college. It was close to the house – I could walk to school if I missed my father leaving for work. We had a great team; I had great coaches.

It’s a very diverse community. I got introduced to a lot of different things, just by going to that high school and being a part of the basketball team there. I was also part of the spoken word club for poetry. Like I said, it prepared me a lot for college.

Ballplayers from New York or Oakland claim to have a unique style. What’s unique about guys from Chicago?

Shumpert: I think the type of ballplayer in Chicago, it’s a test of your heart and your willpower more than a test of skill and shooting. It’s just that, in Chicago, you’re going to have this big bulk of players that they’re all just as good. They don’t do anything great, but everything’s really good. And it’s just about who’ll belly up at the end.

Like, before I got to the NBA, I never heard of: the best player guarding somebody else so he could rest his legs. I had no concept of that. Because where I’m from, if you’re the best player, that means you’re good enough to have the energy to play on both sides.

Of course, I understand it now that I’m in the NBA. That it takes A LOT to carry a team offensively and still have the energy to play defense on the best player. But growing up, especially seeing Michael Jordan do it, naturally, that’s what we were accustomed to doing.
Damn, I live in Oak Park, and have since 2000! I really don't remember him in HS, but we were pretty busy with two babies/toddlers at the time. I do remember a year or two ago, having heard that there was a NY Knicks player from Oak Park, and vaguely remember it was the guy with the Kid 'n Play hair, but forgot about this when we made this recent trade.

Just looked him up in the local web site, and apparently he often comes back to run a kid's basketball camp. My son will be the proper age for it this summer - I'll have to look out for this! Would love to meet him - he seems like a great guy!
