JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's so hard to believe that the consensus opinion was he was a throw in in that trade.. he has made our starting five absolutely deadly.

With Shump seemingly improving game by game - what we did to get these guys is beyond highway robbery.

I believe I called David Griffin a "terrible GM" when this trade happened because the initial report was just JR's name mentioned. I couldn't have been more wrong and I respect Griffin for having the balls to pull the trigger, from now on I'll try and abstain from armchair GMing instead of looking stupid.

Good owning up and while I wasn't that harsh, I was concerned. I was among the consensus that thought JR was a necessary evil to do the trade. I was soooo wrong.

so many ppl so quick to dismiss the trade and say it wouldn't make the cavs contenders

ha! love this dude and love the JR/bron bromance

I was totally wrong about JR. He has been great and has probably been playing his best d of his career.

Anyone think that perhaps it is because he is starting? It just seems like he is much better passing and shooting than creating.

Everyone in NYC is pissed.

I don't think that.

When JR first came to the Knicks from Denver, he was playing very much like you see now. He was even considered a Shumpert type defender in addition to his obvious offensive skills.

When he won 6th man of the year, the team had Jason Kidd and was very good. Again, he played like you see now.

A lot of things happened after that. The team got rid of their veteran leaders (Kidd etc) and went downhill. JR actually had some knee surgery as well, although not catastrophic. As he has stated, living in NYC (also his hometown) didn't help. He kind of lost interest the worse the team got. But look around the NBA, it's hard to keep motivated when your team stinks - however JR is not the strongest person on the block either.

I guess what I am saying is that he has had that ability all along. Still a very good athlete and still not that old. It just got buried in a dysfunctional situation - both team and personal.

I will say this (and I did see him a lot on the Knicks living in New York state) he has reigned in his shot selection quite a bit AND has focused on defense. He has matured. His quick hands on the Cavs adds to a number of guys with that quality here.

Announcers say he is easily influenced by teammates and that seems to be true. When he had strong leaders on those Knicks teams he thrived. Same here now.

Seriously, adding a guy with his shooting ability to a team that already had Lebron, Love and Kyrie distracting defenses is almost criminal. And he has added athleticism, passing ability, and defense as well.

A total steal of a trade.

I think it's because JR has always been an asset on a winning team. He only becomes a liability when he's on a bad team.

To be 100% honest, I really think that JR has studied the way the shumpert and Lebron plays passing lanes and is giving great effort on that end no matter what. His offense has fit in perfectly and his defense has been much better than anticipated, and I can say I honestly forgot how athletic he was until today......holy crap he can absolutely glide through the air, it's nice to have someone like that who fits so well(in terms of catch and shoot 3's) and goes back door, really opens up the offense and spaces the floor for our stars

Right after the trade, many Knick fans were bashing Phil.

I went to their forum. All I see was how JR was trashing The Triangle even though he was just as bad during the Woodson days. Even after the huge 3s and dunks all they can say was how JR is the king of garbage points. Haven't found one angry Knick about the trade. They're all Salty Spitoons.

Why should they be sad or angry about the trade? They were terrible with Smith and terrible without him. Only now they get to be terrible with less salary.

Yep. That's the general consensus of Knicks fans.
