LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yes I watched every game.

Game 2 he certainly didnt quit. Game 5 the Cavs were ambushed and LeBron was brutal.

If he quit that game then he quit a couple of games in the Finals against the Mavs as well.

I'm not going to change your minds on this. But Cleveland fans are the only ones who refer to that as "Quit Gate" today. Back then sure other people thought that as well.

The finals against the Mavs just exposed how flawed and mentally weak LeBron can be. Thats not "quitting".

Windhorst said it best on that. LeBron never accepting responsibility and blaming his teammates led to the downfall the following year.

Thats oh shit they have my number and I have no counter.

But again...its part of Cleveland lore and has been affirmed in a lot of people's mind. So it what it is.

Moving on.

I would agree that Lebron, pre 2012 playoff run, was not mentally tough enough to dominate and win a chip. Guy had to literally have his basketball mystique torn down in 2011 to come back mentally tougher and a more well rounded player. I don't see not having your mind right as quitting.

But who cares now, the future is bright.

I'll just add one more thing. I think an example of an athlete truly quitting on his team is what Percy Harvin did to the Seahawks last year. That's cut and dry.

Definitely not true. I can't speak for all fanbases, but I lived in the Boston area at the time and I can tell you with certainty that they also thought he quit. Of course, they loved every second of it; they made LeBron James quit. Who else can say that? Nobody.

Lot of Celtics fans I know HATE the fact that its referred to as quit game. Because it diminishes how well they played and shut LeBron down.

I considered this a mentally weak superstar who couldnt bully a tough team. The lack of post game is appalling. He had the excuse of "not good enough teammates" to shift the blame. The finals against the Mavs showed he was never well rounded enough or mentally tough to win a championship against the right kind of opponent.

Again...I respect everybody's opinion. So I'll leave it alone.

I've never agreed with other Cavs fans on this. There's really no point in fighting it, most believe their suspicions were confirmed when Dan Gilbert came out and called LeBron a quitter in the Letter.

I just can't believe a guy that, despite quitting on the team, managed to hold Paul Pierce to 13.5 points on 35% shooting that series. It's not his fault Rajon Rondo put Mo Williams on a skewer and repeatedly barbequed him multiple games. While Mo's three-point shot was leaving him (21% from deep) Rondo averaged 21/12/6 while shooting 54% from the field that series... yet the narrative is still LeBron James quit on us.

I've just never understood it. LeBron's 38/8/7 in Game 3 was one of the best playoff performances by a Cavalier in franchise history, and it came in a 29-point beatdown in the Garden. The worst home playoff loss the Celtics ever had.. yet it's conveniently been forgotten about by the majority of Cavs' fans.

If we want to scapegoat a player let's blame Mo Williams or Antawn Jamison for disappearing and leaving a washed up 37-year-old Shaquille O'Neal as the team's second leading scorer. That's never going to happen though, because despite his return there's always going to be a pocket of Cleveland fans that just despise LeBron James. Anyone remember those "Fuck LeBron James" posts from earlier this season that got 10+ likes? Fucking ridiculous.

I watched him refuse to chase after loose balls, even so much as getting beat by Paul Pierce on one. There was still a couple minutes left, he's not trying. I see Delonte West leaving it all out on the floor. I think by Game 5 he realized his team couldn't do it, and he just gave up. The Dallas job was most assuredly choking under the pressure. But I watched all of that Game 5 and I know what I saw. I didn't see someone wilting under the pressure and being mad at himself. I saw someone give up and blame everyone else around him as evidenced by the post game comments. It is what it is. All will be made right when we get our championship. That's all I care about now. He's strong enough to do it, his team is talented enough to do it. No more excuses. Just win.

I don't think "quit" is the right word. He just gave up and lost the hope. Truth is no matter how great you are, you need support and he hardly had any in that series. He was visibly frustrated with it and also lack of ability from the front office to bring in a good second option and decent role players. Eitherway, Its in the past now. What matters is, he is back home now. Everyone makes mistakes. Its how you rectify it that matters.

Sounds like the knee is a bit sore. Really hope they sit him tomorrow night and suck the life out of that crappy sports town.

They got their 1 Lebron home game. If they wouldnt have left in the 3rd qtr every night when he was there they could have witnessed an extra season of Lebron over those 4 years.

Gus, I usually agree with you and think you are a great poster but I fervently disagree on this issue. First, I do think you may have a point regarding Lebron's weak mental state, but that by no means signifies he did not quit. I think he gave it his all that last game but I think certain game(s) that series he looked like he gave no effort.
Secondly, I was at debate camp watching that entire series. A lot of Boston, Lakers, and Heat fans. I was by no means the only person watching thinking "Lebron is quitting."

That was an insane fall. I'd credit his many years of yoga for preventing something serious there.

Take the night off.

Let Kyrie show off. Get Love involved in the post/elbow. Get Marion back on the court to work off rust.

LBJ's competitiveness will want him to beat the Heat in Miami and obviously they have a better shot to do so with him but at this point in the season if it's sore and you weigh this game and even if its a loss its not truly a setback, rest.
