Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone hear Reggie do a 180 on delly. By the end of the game he basic had the full shaft and was liking his balls
I think Reggie deserves some credit. He realised the shit storm he started and was doing what he could to smother it. I bet it is more than Goldberg, Skip and Stephen A Smith will ever do.

Reggie went on Dan Patrick to try and clarify what he said. It was basically the same thing as the broadcast. Clean player, borderline dirty plays. Which is ridiculous.

Not many of us saw this coming. This level of play, the sudden rising to the occasion by Delly when he was needed most. But why? I think the reason his play has transitioned/improved so well from the regular season to the post season is because of his style of game. Its easy for a shooter like Korver to vanish in the pressure of the playoffs that demands toughness. The same can't be said for Delly. Sure he may get some open looks from 3 and sometimes they might not be falling for him on any given day, but his game is not built around or relied upon this. Irritating the opposition point guard and not giving up an inch? That's not a skill that is variable,it's a given, Delly is going to bring that every second of every game. And that's why I love him ( Sure the Australian thing helps too :chuckle: )

I found myself just smiling uncontrollably at the TV when Delly made that three-point play while being dragged with one arm and making the shot with the other in the 4th quarter. And then to see Lebron and all of the bench go crazy just reminded me yet again why I, and I'm sure we all, love this cavs team.

Just finally, there was another play in Game 4 where he made a shot ( either a 3 or a floater in the lane) and then immediately pressed up to play full court D and ball pressure on Teague . Teague couldn't believe his luck, became frustrated and committed the offensive foul at mid court. That's one less possession for Atlanta and one small in-game win for the cavs which is so easily overlooked during an eventful game. Watching that was 10 seconds of pure Delly brilliance, summed him up as a player perfectly. Yeah, he has a bit of skill I guess... But he's determined as all hell and in a team as talented as ours that's exactly what we need. Toughness. Grit.

P.S Was totally worth taking the day off work to watch this in Aus!! Its been a long 4 years but we are back. Go Cavs

Maybe I confused the "post injury Delly" play from January and February with a return to the mean prediction of pre-draft scouting reports and a predictor of what we'd see going forward instead of a period of rehab and adjustment, which is what it looks like it hindsight?

I agree, there were no doubt some who predicted Delly to be a key factor but I think the majority, including myself, were imagining a mix between early season and recent Delly( Up and down) ... and not purely All Star Outback Jesus at the PG. I was ready to take the good with the bad, but you're right, with hindsight... bring on the 'good'.

The NBA is filled with 'talent', the issue is whether the 'talent' is ever fully realised. Frankly a lot of the time it is not and this is where Delly shines a light on aspects of performance that may not be that comfortable for some. The question will come along the lines of 'If Delly can work this hard, why cannot (insert name of player)?'
Of course it's not 'cool' to try, struggle, work hard - but curiously is this not the image in sport we should encourage for our youth?
Delly is 'limited' by his genetics, he is not going to get bigger, jump like Wiggins or sprint like Exum. But what he highlights is that you can achieve close to 100% and that hard work and brains DO have a place at the NBA table.

This always reminds me of just after we aquired Ben Wallace and he'd be under the basket to perform a one man press. The difference is Delly will do this during his full stint on the court

Delly was living rent free in Teague and Horford's head. Horford might as well been suspended as he scored like 2 points in 29 minutes. You knew Delly was in Teague's head as soon as he committed a stupid offensive foul on Delly like less than minute on him checking in
