2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just trade with the Hawks and go for the sure thing in Bitadze and someone else.

We need to stockpile on assets, and the drop off is negliable. Neither Culver or Hunter are special, even if one of them turns out to be great.

This draft is fairly deep, so we need to take advantage of it.
What's your comparison for Goga?

I like Hachi, but some mocks have him all over the place. Some even have him going after Brandon Clarke. And then what if the Lakers take him? Then, we really ARE stuck with the pu-pu platter.
After doing more research I found out that he's a shit defender. With that large wingspan and agility, that's not good. I'm thinking Kevin Porter Jr now.

No way. That dude is a walking, talking attitude problem.

Rui has a good attitude and work-ethic. Beilein can teach him to defend!

I am a huge fan of Rui Hachimura and I would draft him at 5 just like how much a fan I am with Collin in his younger days.

I have been watching Rui since high school so let me explain about him.

Background:

Rui always wanted to pursue track and he was projected to be one of the bests in middle school. One of his best friends at that time told him that he should play basketball. Rui did not have any interest at first but his friend kept bugging him for couple weeks daily to join the basketball team. Rui finally said all right. At that time the coaches were impressed of his athleticism and Rui started to like playing basketball. Then his team won the inter-high (Japan summer high school tournament) in 2015.

Let’s talk about his game:

Rui has an excellent mid range game. He takes advantage of smaller guys guarding him and uses leverage/positioning. When bigger guys guard him he takes it to the rim and loves using his spin move on either side. He knows how to create space and shoots a mid range jumper to free his man whether it is at top or on the baseline. He was not that great of a shooter before and that is because he was still raw. Rui has the passion and work ethic to get his game better and became a much better shooter. His range is increasing year by year and his work ethic will definitely allow him to be more consistent and confident to shoot 3s in the NBA.

Rui is a team player and prefers winning and making the right play instead of his stats. Growing up in Japan and having a sense of teamwork knowing fundamentals so Rui was not the guy who will try to be outstanding and take over the game. But with guidance, coaching, and confidence, he has the ceiling to be exceptional on offense. His game is still growing and you would need some patience to utilize his full potential. Coming to the states, he did not know much English so he had to go to ESL (English Second Language School) and study for SATs to get into Gonzaga. That was tough for him but him able to grasp English and learn basketball in US and become better shows how he can live up to the stake.

He has good anticipation on defense where he is good at contesting shots. Sometimes he has tendency to look at the ball and not box out but that is very fundamental to fix.

Rui’s game is a bit different from the Japan team and when he played in Gonzaga. In Japan team they leverage him in the post but they also like to have him outside and take shots. He has a good one-two dribbles to create space and shoot. He can hit shots when open. More confidence he will excel further. With Coach Beilein, Rui will have the opportunity to excel.

He wants to win. He wants to be better.

Takes it for what's its worth, but I believe..just getting home from drinks with a few friends. One if my friends cousins, girlfriends, brother (shit you not) supposedly is close to just a scout for the Cavs. Stated their top 5 is Zion, Ja, Hunter,Culver, Bol, with Langford as the outlier, Bol Doesnt check out, Langford sits #5.. they love Hunter seeing the next Kawhi but believe Lakers are taking him..in that order and ofcourse if Bol Checks out..that was before Bielein, Beilein is in favor of Hunter and Culver, believe Rj is going to Fall if he gets past Knicks. have Barrett rated below those 6..hoping Knicks do Take him.. truly believe that's the order. No mention of Hachimura. Look Michigan players our second pick, (Ignas, Matthews) if still available and depending on first pick.. if plays out what he thinks he sees hunter going 4 and Culver to us. With bol fighting that spot if checking out.

Bol seems destined for the Hawks.

If I were the Hawks, I'd take two bigs. Goga and Bol would be a tremendous C rotation and could keep both guys fresh.

As for Hunter, man I do LOVE his game but calling him the next Kawhi is really rough around the edges. Kawhi was drafted at a younger age than Hunter and has been a massive outlier. Not saying Hunter isn't good but if you draft him, expect Trevor Ariza and if you get more, excellent.

I'm on the Culver train. He's a safe and solid pick who I don't think would disappoint at all. I think his usg% of Tech made him look like a worse player. If he's relegated to secondary ball handler and can slash more, I think his ceiling is #2 option on a playoff team. Smaller Igoudala or DeMar Derozen ultimately.

At 26, I like Ignas but Matthews is such a blase player. Extremely good defender but what does Matthews give you as a offensive threat?

Wealthy man’s Ante Zizic?

I think he has some elements of Nurkic (less physical, but more shooting), some elements of Kanter (worse rebounding, but better shot blocking), some elements of a poor man’s Jokic.

I’m just very weary of him becoming BBQ chicken defensively even with his shot blocking.

This is the type of discussion about Culver that makes him kind of a depressing option at #5.

After praising his skills highly, they conclude Culver is a "complementary role player" that has the chance to become a Bulls starter in 2021 when that NBA stud Otto Porter leaves.

I don't see Zizic at all. Offensively, I think Goga can be a real threat everywhere on the floor. I don't see slow feet either. I thought he moved well in the videos I saw.

In my post in the S34, I stated a poor mans Jokic. You shitted on it and said it was an unfair comparison. I just see Goga as in the mold of a Jokic/Nurkic and I'd take him.

I'd take a three pt shooting Nurkic right now to pair with Beilein.

I think it's fine if you want to call him a role player. I think what he becomes will be extremely valuable. A good scorer and elite defender. He's a better player than Otto Porter, IMO.

I liked what I saw of Romeo Langford this season. He played on an awful team and seemed to defer quite a bit as a freshman but his stroke looks good to me (even if the results weren't so good) and he has a decent handle and ability to finish. Would take a huge amount of faith to trust them if they pick him at 5 though. More of a 10-20ish type guy to me. But 6'11" wingspan on a SG is nice.

I think the Lakers are in a weird position if they don't trade the pick on draft day. They will have to balance the player as an asset vs who they like. Ultimately you would think they will want to trade the pick. Hunter like most good shooter won't come out of the gates looking great. There is always an adjustment period for good 3 pt shooters. His lack of good ball handling skills won't help him either.

I actually think they will go with Culver over Hunter because he will look good in summer league and they can keep his value high in the short term until they can trade him.

I looked up highlights of Langford and I liked what I saw. I didn't see much off the ball play from him though. His size and length would be a good pairing with Sexton. I'm not sure their games would pair together as well. I think we would want someone that is good both on and off the ball at SG and has decent passing ability. Sexton and Langford could be another Kyrie and Dion situation.
