New to RCF? Read Me!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wait a second... if everyone follows the rules I won't be able to ban people anymore. :(

There's a suburban bar about 15 minutes from where I live (its in Libertyville). They get some names in music at times - Skid Row, Candlebox, Puddle of Mudd, Theory of a Deadman, Blackstone Cherry, Sevendust, Saliva, Bret Michaels and several others that you would have heard of - can't think now).

Anywho, DMX was set to do a Saturday night. The event was pre-sold, like $20 a ticket. I didn't get one, as I was in Ohio that weekend. Apparently, DMX stayed in his hotel partying - didn't even show up for the event. I know the owner, and he told me its his M.O.

On a related event, I was just listening to DMX's "Where da hood at" in the car.

MVP, just a reminder, I've been here for about 3-4 years now. I must not be so unliked to last here this long. But then again, you just came here in Sept of 2008. Clearly you're more loved than I am. I make a thread to try to convince douchebags like you to quit posting your garbage, but yeah, no one likes me.

By the way, your mom owes me at least $20. I didn't leave $50 on the nightstand for shits and giggles. I want my $30 in change.

So much for that good natured ribbing point you made in your post. Just sounds like a cry for attention at this point. Look at me! Look how cynical and witty I am! Nice try though.

Oh damn. Can I even post that? I've only been here since June 2008. Heh.

That's definitely good natured for X....he's one bad motherfucker. Now shoo fly.

Re: New to RCF, Read Me!

Also, please make some attempt to proofread your posts. This place is all about quality, so put forth some effort to make your post readable. Also, without becoming the grammar police, please form your thoughts in a coherent manner.

Posts reading something along the lines of the following make me want to pound my head onto my keyboard.

"Dwite Howard is da shit. We shud trade 4 him. We'd be gettin dat ring fo sho!"
LMFAO:thumbup::chuckles:

"Man if we got kobe, we'd have a dyNASTY, alls we gotta do is trade for him, and we da best team eva

I can get behind ideas like the Lebron2010 banners, and not having people posting inane or repetitive posts. I can get behind running a smooth, easily navigated community. Having a site that has guidelines. In those aspects, I enjoy this site immensely.

What I can't get behind is someone posting some guidelines for posting, then breaking the very posting guidelines he just set for everyone else. I can't get behind the hypocrisy that is "Don't flame people! Unless you're considered one of the resident coolguys of this board! Then it's okay...". That gives me the impression that new opinions and ideas aren't truly welcome here. It also gives off the impression that this is a board for the handful of people who started in. And if you haven't been around since then, your opinion is somehow less. Your quickness to make pithy comments like "Shoo fly" in response to my concern only legitimizes it.

I don't know this guy from Adam, and couldn't care less. But as far as a "Read me" section, this one falls pretty short due to it's unprofessional and bullish content.

I couldn't find that rule in his initial post.

Some members here have been talking Cavs for five years or in some cases even before RCF was created, pretty much everyday. We might take some jabs at each other, but we do it with the ultimate respect for each other. I think the banter around here is usually damn entertaining.

Again, lurking and posting thoughtful, well-researched posts for a month is the best way to break into RCF in a positive way. Come to think of it, up to two years ago, I only had 500 total posts after almost three years as a member. I built up to posting five or six times a day.

Another issue that I think you were referring to is an overwhelming agreement on many topics among long-time members. I for one am open to new facts and changes, but remember that some debates have gone on before new members joined, and the debates were rich in facts, statistics and evidence. Again, there is a long archive of debates on "Mike Brown is not a good head coach" or "The Cavs cannot win with these slow centers." New members can always find some strong evidence to sway what has already been debated ad nauseum, but if there are no new facts being brought to the table I for one am going with what has already been discussed for the past five years.

EDIT: This post really got me to thinking, so I applaud that. I thought I'd add three takes on members who have really stood out in the past few months after very non-descript beginnings.

Thewuck- He had been around and posted very occasionally before the season. Suddenly, the guy started unearthing great articles from throughout the web. These expert opinions from throughout the hoops world really challenged everyone's preconceived notions, and made the site much stronger. He was rewarded by becoming a moderator.

camakazee- I guess he used to post on the cavs.com board, but I never bothered with it. All I knew was the guy churned out top-notch statistical breakdowns after every game this past season, and I personally nominated him for some recognition as one of our official bloggers. I didn't know a thing about the guy this time last year, but now his humor and stats are an integral part of RCF.

crookedmacs- I see from his join date that he has been lurking around here for a while, but during the playoffs the guy suddenly started churning out absolutely hilarious takes on the Cavs, the board, and whatever goes through the psyche of T.S. Eliot on crystal meth. I appreciate his the way he seemlessly combines humor that doesn't offend anyone with his unique take on life as a Cavs fan. Again, he is far from being a member of the old boy's club... he just makes the site better.

I strongly feel that new members examine what these guys have done recently to impress the 6,000+ readers here and try to challenge their own writing to improve RCF. Doing so will surely be rewarded.

PM X and tell him about it...all this bickering just seems like public power display by too many people.

First; Great post "The Man Called X" !!

Please allow me to stick in a tad bit of advice to any new members as well. .. just some humble advice from a pretty new member myself.

I didn't heed this type of advice when I joined. I sort of jumped right in and have made some mistakes in the past month or so. The key here though; you truly have to learn by them. For example; a few days ago I made a post without taking much time to go over it to make sure I clearly made my point known. After posting it, I immediately realized I had forgot an important part of it. I edited it. BUT: In the few minutes it was out there to read, a few members had already quoted it with a reply. Of course the quote did not include what I had just added to my own post. This led to me having to make yet another post explaining my point more clearly. Not good. Make sure you have given your post enough time, (even preview it), before you press that submit button, as it will go a long ways to ensuring you have come across the way you wanted it to.

Also; the written word online is a very tricky thing. It's so much easier speaking and debating and even arguing with someone "face to face" as you have the full context of what the other person is trying to say. For this reason, writing online is very much a learned concept, especially writing online in a discussion forums such as this. My point is this: USE THE SMILIES at your disposal when creating a post. If you think what you wrote just might deliver a different meaning to readers or to who you are replying to than what you intended, and you think a smilie might clear things up in a better way.......... then use them. The other person might not think you are trying to be funny or even sarcastic unless you use a smilie after the sentence you just wrote. Do you see?

Anyway; I think it's great a regular member can gather his thoughts to start a thread such as this. Kudos to the Man Called X. :)

Finally; I love what Glen has done here. Kudos to any others who have helped build a truly great place to discuss Cleveland sports.

When you're a relatively new member, and you criticize someone who posted a thread to try to help bring some sanity to this forum, you're being an ass. And for what I am capable of, that was a rather timid post.

I have no issues with what you're saying, because I agree. But yeah, I'm an asshole, and I will put people in their place if the need arises. I have absolutely no power on this website. I am not a moderator, I am not an admin. I have to perform sexual favors just like everyone else to get them to respond to a PM.

I'm not exempt from any of the rules. I've been temp banned twice. I've received 2 infractions as well.

I get PMs from the mods if I'm pushing the limits. So does everyone else.

Want to see less of my assault posts? Then let's all make great posts, and keep the garbage down to a minimum.

These weren't meant to be ironclad rules of the forum, just an easy guide to try to help cut down on the clutter. Put it specifically in a visible place where the majority of newer members go. I value this website, and really have enjoyed the time I've spent discussing the Cavs here. I'm the "Cavs guy" with all my friends specifically because of this website. Once you spend enough time here, you stop being just an average fan.

And specifically, I've enjoyed quite a few of your posts. You're the kind of poster that doesn't need to read this thread. You've clearly already demonstrated that.

I've just come to hold a higher standard for RCF and I'd like to see this site continue it's greatness. I encourage you to add to that greatness.

Sorry, I was just kidding around though from your original post when you said something about the guy around here that everyone loves or something. Sorry if I offended you or Bigmar or someone else, it wasn't meant. I think you are actually an okay dude, lol.

It's all good. I'm a grumpy guy named X in real life at the moment. Lash out at the world! It was a confusing post. Smileys are a key at times ;)
