Patrick McCaw

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Might have been the weirdest hold out ever. So he turned down 2 year 5.2 mill for 2 year 6 mill(assuming both had same 1+1 setup). On top of that the Warriors can still match. I remember a few guys being “annoyed” with the hold out including Curry going into the season but after 30+ games it would be pretty awkward if the Warriors matched.

I’m not even sure this guy is good because everybody forgot about him until today. He wasn’t a rookie last year and is going into his third season FYI. Creating a weird team of castoffs is pretty much how the Nets did it so maybe we’re looking to mix that method while tanking for our picks and selling off vets for more. We’re on our way with Burks and McCaw if the Warriors don’t match.

Considering Golden State can match it and waive him at virtually no cost before January 7th, they will 100% match this.

They likely match him and shop him, and if they don't find a deal, they simply waive him after the week.

He's likely to never be a Cavalier, although I wouldn't have minded the prospect of that happening.

That would be pretty dirty to match it and then waive him a week later.

Can they shop him though? Isn't there a waiting period after you sign a player and when they can be traded outside of a sign and trade scenario?

The out could be part of his plan if they do match the offer. He could just come in and be an asshole for a week. There might be some thinking on his part that he will never develop if he stays with the Warriors because of the limited amount of minutes, reps, and ability to have the ball in his hands.

I don't think many NBA players envision themselves as only a role player as their career path. I think most want the chance to see if they can be more than that.

I thought the last CBA closed any loophole of that sort, or am I thinking of a different loophole?

Myers doesn't give a rat's ass about being "dirty," and that's much of why he's successful. Steph still has no NTC (formality or not,) to say nothing of the end of the bench.

I looked it up and it seems like he can't be traded for 3 months after signing so they either release him by January 7th or take the luxury tax hit.

So he will be ineligible for the deadline. Makes sense for Cavs to sign him as a replacement for Burks/Hood.

What is the nature of this deal that he can be waived this easily after signing an offer sheet? I have never heard of this?

When you have a chance to sign a guy with 2 rings to help the young guys you do it.

Guy is bringing championship experience to the Cavs.

If you wonder why Golden State is struggling this year, its because they don't have McCaw playing yet.

My guess it was put in by his agent as a last ditch option to get out of Golden State if they decide to pick up the contract. My guess is we haven't seen it before because agents would never allow it.

He will probably raise hell in Golden State for a week and hope to get cut.

If GSW matches then waives him why can't we sign him at that point.
The kid obviously wants a chance to prove himself..what better place than Cleveland

They could I think. The question is if he would take that much money as an UFA

How could he develop on a team like GSW.
There is no playing time except garbage time

McCaw is the kind of player that Koby should be looking for. Finding a diamond under a rock would sure help the rebuild.

I think that's a good idea. Is there anything in the CBA that doesn't allow a team to sign a player they gave a offer sheet to? I know there are rules against trading the player to the team that have given him an offer sheet.

Good question. I've never seen an offer sheet matched and the player waived a week later.

I do know that after an offer sheet is matched, that player cannot be traded to that team for an entire year.
