Predicting the Cavs Rotations and Player Roles

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You guys are all forgetting a very important lineup for this team.

PG - John Lucas III
SG - Matthew Dellavedova
SF - Joe Harris
PF - Dwight Powell
C - Alex Kirk

That's the lineup we'll be seeing in the final 2 minutes of most games due to blowouts. :king:

When did we sign Delly's brother?

Personally I want to see this lineup, even if it's just to give Irving a breather.

PG Delly
SG Dion
SF Lebron
PF Love
C Andy

I think this lineup could be devastating on both ends.

Great article.
That's why getting Shawn Marion would be such a huge signing.

On offense, we can do everything we want and if we need some stops in crunch time, we can play:
Irving, Delly, James, Marion, Andy

If we need some stops in crunch time you certainly wouldn't want Kyrie on the floor. In that case, the backcourt should be Dion and Delly.

How is that starting 5 "devastating" when all you've done is swap delly for kyrie?

I think he means it's (still) devastating on offense (although not as much as the starting lineup), and potentially much better on defense (if you believe Delly would be a huge upgrade on D over Irving).

Cheers.

Challenge:

Try to come up with a non-devastating lineup that the Cavs could realistically play this season, (assuming no injuries, not garbage time).

That's hard.

Yeah, the best I can come up with is Dion-Delly-Miller-Love-TT, and even that would be pretty damn good considering how successful the Dion-Delly backcourt was last year when surrounded by the likes of Gee, Clark, and Bennett.

Their bench lineup? Delly-Allen-Miller-Marion-TT. It's not a bad lineup, spacing and defense could possibly be issues. Just any lineup not containing Irving-Lebron-Love.

Barring injuries, there's no chance that line-up ever steps foot on the court all together when we have three all-stars and Dion on the team. There's just no point when you can literally always have one of LeBron-Love-Irving on the court.

I like the defensive lineup of Irving-Delly-Lebron-Marion-Varejao.

Any time you have Irving and Lebron on the floor at the same time you should have enough offense and if you can put out your best defensive effort with them and Delly/Marion doing a reasonable job of stretching the floor and being able to knock down most 3's, I think it could be pretty powerful.

Swapping Love for Irving and bumping everyone over (Delly-Lebron-Marion-Love-Varejao) might also have the same effect. Marion at the 3, Lebron covering your best guard, Delly locking down your other guard, and Varejao covering your best post player? oh my.

Also, if you put Irving-Delly-Marion-Love-Varejao when it was go time for Irving iso or Delly-Lebron-Marion-Love-Varejao when Lebron has it going that might work pretty well too.

Strategically, I see Delly and Marion offering the greatest lineup synergy boost. When you think of Miami, they didn't really have anyone other than Bosh/Lebron who could be considered a lock-down defender and could also hit the 3 after Battier declined in the middle of their run. Haslem could only hit out to 15 feet. Allen/Miller weren't plus defenders. Norris Cole might get there in a few years.

I think Tristan will play more than you guys are guessing. I think Marion plays more 3 than 4 and TT fills in the PF spot when Love sits and does a little bit of Center. Tristan will still play 20-25mpg, I think. I also think Love will get hurt at some point and Tristan will start.
