Saw Monuments Men. 6.5/10.

Well acted, well cast. Moved a little slow. Matt Damon's and Cate Blanchette's characters were a little underdeveloped. Dialogue was a but bland for the 1st half of the movie.

Saw the LEGO movie. Loved it, saw it with my 3 year old daughter who also liked it. Very funny, decent story and smashes through the 4th wall to round out the story and leave it making a comment on the way toys are seen by different generations

i have to admit i did not expect this movie to absolutely kill it. haven't gotten around to seeing it myself yet, but critics are swooning over it and everyone i've talked to raved about it as well.

as a parks and rec fan, i'm particularly happy to see the success. pratt is quietly on track to be the next megastar.

Pratt is everywhere now. Zero Dark Thirty was quickly followed up with Her, Lego and Guardians of the Galaxy. I like him but it gets tiring seeing Hollywood take something good and overuse it til you are annoyed.

Finally saw Boogie Nights recently. Very good out of rating scale.

Make sure you check the guardians of the galaxy trailer then
yeah i watched it earlier. not into comics at all so i had no idea what the hell was going on. it has a damn tree and raccoon!

i've never really been able to get into the marvel series to be honest. only liked im1 and the avengers. im2 and 3 were sorta interesting because of the tech moreso than the actual plot, and i was super bored with thor and captain america.

of course all of the superhero movies just rake in cash at the box office, so getting the lead in something like that is impressive regardless.

he's the lead in the new jurassic park movie too.

It was that very last scene that got you to have it an off the charts rating, right? Or was it the "Feel, feel, feel. Feel my heat." song?

I have "King of New York" on queue. I saw this movie years ago, but can't remember if it was good or not. Didn't read the movie summary. I'm on an 80's and early 90's kick.

Last week I watched "Adventures in Babysitting" and the original "Robocop"-- I have no interest in the reboot.

Finally saw Dallas Buyers Club. I would give it maybe an 8-10. The movie was good and I was very entertained.

I thought McConaughey was good, but I don't think his performance was Academy Award winning worthy. He definitely deserves to be nominated just from an overall changing of appearance and dedication to the role stand point, but I don't think there was anything special about his performance. I wasn't sucked into or awed by his performance. It wasn't an overly emotional one, and it wasn't something that I thought was a really deep character. I believe his performance in True Detective is a lot deeper and more real. It really sucks you in to the character. This is just my personal opinion.

I do believe that Jared Leto's performance is being overlooked. He was absolutely incredible, and his role was unique and very deep. He didn't have a ton of screen time overall, but he played his role perfectly and stole every scene he was in. He more than deserves his nomination, and after seeing almost all of the nominee movies, exception being 12 years a slave, I feel he is right near the top, if not my choice for best supporting Actor. Loved his role and performance in the movie.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I would say Jared Leto getting nominated means he's not getting overlooked for his performance.

When I say overlooked, I mean it in the sense that I don't think many people are considering him in the top echelon of that category. I haven't heard his name brought up when the front runners are mentioned. I also haven't heard his name brought up a lot in general even though he is nominated. So when I say overloooked, he's kind of a very quiet Academy Award nominee, that in my opinion, should be the front runner in the category.

Jared Leto was superb in "Dallas Buyers Club". I had no idea he was nominated. But then again, I'm not big on the Oscars/award shows.

Watched a documentary called "Sound City"-- great for those who have an appreciation for music and how it was made back in the late 70's and early 80's. You learn how the digital age kind of "killed" the Neve Console and then how Nirvana brought it back to life again.

I also caught "Killer Joe". I had to sleep on it before I gave my thoughts. It was so bizarre that it's classified in the same category that "The Talented Mr. Ripley" is in. Great acting all around, but so damn disturbing that I don't think I'd watch it again. Matthew McConaughey in particular just made 2 scenes so uncomfortable for me. It's one of those movies that you'd have to see and judge for yourself.

I would say Steve Albini had more to do with Nirvana's sound than Nirvana themselves. Steve Albini is quite an impressive producer/engineer - he will be the first to say he is more of an engineer than a producer. He refuses to have any credits on albums and does not take royalties - he only charges a flat fee (rare/unheard of!). Albini was used by Nirvana because, Albini recorded The Pixies, which was a huge influence on them. Albini's approach is doing all the recording live and not on seperate tracks individually. He finds the best sound from the room through creative mic placements and not necessarily on the instruments themselves. That is how Nirvana got "their" sound.

Disclaimer: I am not a Nirvana fan but, more of a fan of Albini (look him up, he is a legit cat). I hate how a band like Nirvana gets so much credit for "changing music" and ushering in a "new sound". They ripped off The Pixies, Stooges and Bad Brains and got all the credit for this "new sound" when it was all being done but, not in front of a pop audience. Nirvana did not bring back the Neve console - it was used before them and still used today along with digital and analog recording platforms. It is a staple of any recording engineers analog/outboard gear. It is timeless and incredibly expensive (for a good reason).

No, Nirvana brought the popularity of Sound City back. They were booked solid after Nirvana recorded there. Of course they didn't go into detail of all the recording of the "Nevermind" album. But that after it's release, an all but dead Sound City was popular.

Dave Grohl now owns the board and did an album with artists that used to record in Sound City. What I liked the most about the documentary is that you actually got to see footage of recording sessions with Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, and Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac.
