Ballplayer.

Should have uppercutted her, punishment would have been far less severe.

How bad have things been for the Diamondbacks this season?

Edit: I can't read a boxscore. Thought it said he had two dingers last night. :chuckles:

That looked like the power slider from RBI Baseball.

That looked like the power slider from RBI Baseball.

I don't think there is a single pitch in baseball harder to square up than Kenley Jansen's cutter.

He's basically the Frankenstein creation of Mariano Rivera, and if he can figure out how to control it to even 75 percent of Rivera's level then he'll just absolutely murder hitters for years.

Roberto "Fausto" Hernandez heading to the Dodgers for two minor leaguers.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but MLB may vote on a new commissioner today.

It's down to two candidates, Rob Manfred and Tom Werner.

Tim Brosnan was also a candidate but withdrew before the first vote, presumably in an alliance with Werner in hopes of unseating the front runner Manfred.

Werner is the current chairman of the Red Sox, a former television executive who initially broke into the league as an owner of the Padres in 1990. He would be a strong presence in the forthcoming television deals which run through 2021, but moreover he would be integral to the much needed re-branding of the league as a whole.

Manfred has the support of Randy Levine and carries a ton of weight with the MLB establishment, I've always assumed he was Selig's natural successor for better or for worse but it appears this could be very closely contested to get the three-fourths necessary to win.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Vote produced 22 votes for Rob Manfred, only 1 short of election. 22-8 (werner got 8) Still work to do. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/MLB?src=hash">#MLB</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Commissioner?src=hash">#Commissioner</a></p>&mdash; Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) <a href="https://twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS/statuses/499990782586400768">August 14, 2014</a></blockquote>

Chicago (AL), Toronto, Arizona, Boston, Anaheim among those voting for change.

But it looks as though Manfred will inevitably get the nod.

May be a small thing to consider, but the fact that it has been a difficult road for Manfred (Selig's hand-picked successor) suggests that the owners are somewhat less than thrilled with the status quo.

I can only hope that means something for the future.

I am in the 'someone other than Manfred' camp but going with Tom Werner instead? Looking at the dissenting teams, I just can't get behind him as being any better for the market disparity issues affecting baseball. Now if Jerry ran for it, maybe. Only thing worse than a Red Sox guy in the commish's office would be, well, a Yankees guy. Or something. If they had a flipping clue they would push for Shapiro (and by 'they' I mean the teams that can't furnish 150m a year payrolls). A natural consensus builder. Oh well.

So I assume this means Pete doesn't get in now. I don't really care other than the fact that his speech would be must see TV.
