The 2014 Season Thread For Other Teams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Derek Jeter ropes an RBI double off the left field wall in his first at-bat in his last home game.

Derek Jeter just hit a walk off in his last game at Yankee Stadium because why not?

Nice of Meek to groove in an 86mph meatball.

Ron Gardenhire out as manager in Minnesota.

Mild surprise there, IMO.

Paul Molitor has to be the odds on favorite to take over there.

Poor Gardy.
I wouldn't exactly say "Poor Gardy"...wasn't he the longest active tenured manager with a single team in all of MLB? It would be nice if he could leave on his own terms, but unless you're consistently making the playoffs (or at the very least finishing with an above .500 record), you're in constant danger of getting fired. It doesn't matter who it is...sports is a "what have you done for me lately" business.

While that's true, it's often discouraging because it's a "can't win without talent business" and Gardy fell victim to a horrendous few years of rebuilding while being relatively cash strapped by a low market deal to Joe Mauer not paying off.

It's interesting because for most of the '00s, the Twins player development system was the pride of the AL Central. For all the complaints about the Dolans, the Twins ownership operated under an even lower budget, but they still made it work for quite a long time. I wonder what happened after the turn of the decade.

I hope Gardenhire becomes an analyst somewhere, because he has a great baseball mind.

Truly one of the good guys in baseball too.

The Twins offered him a position within the organization.
