Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The he
This guy is in no way, shape, or form a savior. We would've been better off calling up Hassan Whiteside for free instead of trading away two firsts.

The Heat might have something to say about that..

Lol. No one said or expects him to be the next Hakeem Olajuwon or even Dikembe Mutombo. But, he is a good centre. Someone whom the Cavs desperately needed. Is he amongst the top ten centers in the NBA currently? No. Is he a good player who improve the overall defending of the Cavs? Yes. He had a bad game today but the biggest culprits were Love, Kyrie and Blatt etc.

I think for a nickname, I'll just call him "Timofey Mozgov".

I dunno, it's just got a ring to it.....

I know it's strange, but does anyone else feel like they're trying to say the name "Timothy" with a bad lisp when pronouncing Timofey Mozgov's first name?

I agree. And mark my words, it's only a matter of time until everyone else sees it too.

It's ridiculous how much people overrated him in their desperation for a messiah at center.

I think you misunderstood me. Your initial post was straight garbage not Mozgov.

Wasn't sure where to put this, so it goes here.

Would love to see this guy in a backup role if he is bought out:

Amare Stoudemire - F/C - Knicks

The New York Knicks have reportedly had internal talks about potentially buying out Amare Stoudemire (knee).

He has been sidelined since Christmas day with an ailing knee and with the Knicks opting to rebuild this news isn't that surprising. "It’s a very difficult situation at this point," Stoudemire said. "It’s a hard decision for me to make. My loyalty has always been with New York and the Knicks."

It sounds like Stoudemire has discussed this possibility with the Knicks, but for now they are leaning towards keeping him for the remainder of the season. In other news, He is also said to be targeting a return to the lineup on Thursday

Amar'e would be interesting for a lot of good teams off the bench, but not here. Why?

A. We're not good.
B. We NEED guys who are going to provide serious effort on the defensive end, and to a reasonable level of effectiveness. Amar'e is not such a guy.

Great post, valid points. That said, I have seen Amar'e body up opposing big men. We do need another guy with bulk who can push and shove with opposing bigs. And I think in limited minutes he could do that and defend. I also think the 2nd unit could actually use someone who can score. He can still post up and score, quite well.

My wife's a speech therapist, so yes.

....but then again, she says "acrost", so no.

Mozgov stuff from someone who spent time breaking down hard shows on Nuggets tape, plus how Mozzy can help Love start playing his instinctive game better:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ozgov-changes-the-cleveland-cavaliers-defense

This is what makes Love such a savvy rebounder: He quietly earns position to grab the board while everyone else is staring at the shot. Without someone else defending shots in the paint, this is a major weakness of Love's game. He sometimes sacrifices defense of the basket to get in a better rebounding position.

Playing alongside Mozgov, however, alleviates the pressure on Love to both defend and rebound. At the 5, he's expected to do both. At the 4, there's simply less responsibility.

Most NBA power forwards aren't back-to-the-basket types and are more likely to be pick-and-pop bigs or athletes with a specific skill. And even if he's matched up against a traditional big, NBA offenses keep the 5 down low and the 4 elevated (or vice versa). Love is always going to guard the more perimeter-oriented player.

This frees him up to be the rebounding monster that he is by playing his natural power forward position.

Did any of you hear Steve Clifford interview this morning on Sirius/XM?

He called the addition of Mozgov a "home run" and went on to praise him.

I would call it an RBI double, at the very least...
