Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This may very well be true. And yet, when I look at the list of players taken after him, who doesn't this apply to? Klay Thompson would be the only guy I'd argue for.

I mean we can't choose who is actually availale in a given draft. That draft happened to be void of star power. It's the way it goes.

Never mind the fact that Leonard was one free throw away from being a top 3-4 player on a championship roster

Leonard looks like a better prospect as well. The problem is when you reach at the 4 spot, your critics can suggest almost any other player should have been picked at the spot.

Also makes it that much more painful that Bennett is not working out.

I'll agree with this. But the Spurs are just different than everyone else.

Faried led the nation in rebounding....... That's one of the reasons I liked him at 4.

Kwahi? Jonas?

We didn't have to get a star at #4 after we selected Kyrie at #1. We had needs at every position heading into the draft. We got the best player in the draft, a PG (Kyrie).

Now our best player at the time was Andy so what do we do? Lets pick a player who's game is similar to Andy and say he has more upside and potential.

Stupid decision. Look at us now with Andy and TT. Minus the occasional mid range jumper by Andy and TT defensive ability they're the same player.

Why did we draft a player who played the same position as our best player at the time?

Oh and you know what's even crazier we took a player at #1 (Bennett) who I like btw that plays the same position as the other two.

I don't know where you're going with this. After saying we had needs at every position, you then say we shouldn't take a guy because of Varejao. That doesn't make sense.

Whatever. If you guys think Kawhi Leonard makes a difference, I'll just say I disagree. Klay Thompson, probably. Anyone else? Probably not. Not with Kyrie playing like Brandon Jennings 2.0.

TT didn't make any sense on draft day and he makes even less sense now I'm done

Solid rebuttal.

Look, everyone knows I'm a Thompson guy. But I'm not blind either. A really solid 4 or 5th player just might be his ceiling.

But I look at that draft and that's all I see (except for Klay Thompson). I'm just not gonna get upset we missed out on Kawhi Leonard. He won't be making the all-star game this year either. Nor will Jonas. They all look like role players.

I really wish he'd regain confidence in his mid-range J.

He hit it the first week or so, then lost all confidence in it. He hit 1 of them tonight, but hesitated on a couple other opportunities.

If he regains that confidence & is able to hit it at even a decent clip, he's just that much better.

It's fairly obvious he has the work ethic & the skillset to be an all-star caliber player. He can beat anyone at his position off the dribble in a heartbeat. I honestly just don't think he's too confident in his abilities.

Let's also not forget that he barely gets any plays ran for him, so his offensive output is limited to offensive boards & things you don't see in the boxscore.

It might be a part of browns offense. He's playing bynum out of the high post and he's been playing Thompson in the low post area. Even when bynum posts up down low thompson is in the paint. He doesn't step out very often. When he does he immediately makes his way to the paint when bynum goes for the shot. It's a 90's offense.

I don't understand why he's lost confidence in it, unless it's something behind the scenes. It's not like he had a stretch of games where he missed a bunch of them over and over. He just stopped shooting them.

He does have a really quick release... Maybe too quick. Maybe a year is not enough time to show the great improvement.

I agree. I don't know what all the hate for TT is about. He has shown that he is a hard worker, and the fact that he switched shooting hands in the offseason is unprecedented. Give the kid a break and some time. In 2-3 years, I believe he's a 16 and 11 guy while playing good defense. What the hell is wrong with that?

Really perplexing.

Beginning of the season, the guy was fearless. It really caught me off guard because he STUNK playing for the Canadian team. I mean, Andrew Nicholson was their best player and it wasnt even close. Then Tristan showed up for training camp, and surprised me with his conviction and the way he was playing off instinct.

I wonder if it was feeling like he had a leadership role and just having supreme confidence in himself as a result? I dont know, but I watched the Brooklyn game again last night after the game and this kid looks like two entirely different individuals. Here lies the problem, against Brooklyn and then Charlotte, Tristan was playing off instinct and not worried about his feet or sizing up the defender. Personally, I feel he will always be awkward and unorthodox to a degree but if he's out there thinking instead of just reacting like he did in the first two games, thats when he becomes very pedestrian.

But when you play this game, if you are out there thinking instead of reacting and trusting in yourself to react accordingly, you will look how Tristan has been looking lately and being outplayed by these 3rd tier big men.

And I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but, coaching plays a MAJOR part in that. Trusting your coach to put you in a position to attack. Trying to counter what your coach is doing that you know doesnt work. Playing in a system that puts you in positions not conducive to you playing without having to think too much. This truly is amazing to see and hear people totally excuse a major part of what determines how players produce on the court. A coach truly can/does make a difference.

If we keep Tristan and Bennett, Tristan is our future starting Center and Bennett is our PF.
