Truth And Rumors (trade deadline talk)

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

^ One would argue that with a potential top pick in the draft, Jefferson, and a veteran PG like Billups, that all the sudden we are a top team in the East again.

F High Draft Pick/Gee
F Varejao/Thompson
C Jefferson/Zeller
G Waiters/Gibson or 2nd draft pick
G Irving/Billups

I say we can contend with anyone in the East there. This is not the Atlanta Hawks of the last few years, it's a team that can make a serious run.

I don't understand why people think it's going to be 2017 until we are competing again. The way we are set-up, we could potentially swing a 30 win improvement from this season to next. Tons of cap room, flexibility, assets, etc.

And the little piddly tank "injuries" we have seen with Varejao/Irving all the sudden go away when we are competing. That can't be under-estimated.

Not terrible. I think the issue most fans have, including myself, is that when we do decide to sacrifice most of our assets to trade for a player, we are essentially committing ourselves to that core because we will no longer be bad enough to obtain high lottery picks. This isn't a bad thing. However, the timing of it is essential to our development. I'm not sure adding Jefferson in February is the right move. We would gain more wins and end up sacrificing draft position. I'd be much more willing to make a bold move around the draft. I think this is what the Cavs have planned.

I don't see the Cavs being buyers at the deadline and I'm not sure they will be sellers either. I don't see the point of trading Varejao for a late first rounder when we already will have one as well as two high second rounders. Of course, if the Cavs are offered a strong asset for Varejao, the Cavs will have to consider. Ultimately, I see the Cavs dumping Walton for a second rounder for salary relief. But for now, the Cavs should continue to tank and develop Kyrie, Dion, Tristan, Alonzo, and Tyler.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

I'd imagine Sacto will trade Tyreke before they trade DMC. If I were them I would prioritize DMC over tyreke. Though the idea of kyrie and DMC playing together for the Cavs is mouth-watering.

Just a pipedream..

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline Thread

Just a pipedream..

My pipe dream is things not working out in LA for Dwight (at this point seems possible...), things going great in LA for Paul, and Dwight looking at his only options as the old Mavs, the crappy no talent Hawks, the bad situation/oldasfuck Lakers, or the young up and coming Cavs with an all star PG.

The question is if Dwight really wants to play with JSmoove, do we have the cap room to sign him too? 28ish million commited currently, our rookie draftee(s) could be another 6 million depending on the picks, so say 34 million. Dwight is getting his 20 million, so that would unfortunately leave us with 5-6 million to throw at Smith, which is just not happening. Maybe someone would take Andy off of our hands for a TPE... Then we could give Smith 10+ million.

A roster of

Kyrie
Dion
Gee
Smith/Thompson
Dwight/Zeller

Is pretty good if Waiters can play at this level for the remainder of his career.

That my freind is how you do a pipedream...

Would you still pay max for Dwight as of today? I'm not so sure I would.

I don't really think one center in the league right now deserves a max contract.

2012-2013 NBA Trade Deadline Thread

Let's talk about all possible Trade Deadline deals. Let me start:

Sources: Clippers, Celtics discussing Kevin Garnett trade

HOUSTON — The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers have been discussing a deal to trade forward Kevin Garnett for guard Eric Bledsoe and center DeAndre Jordan, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

There are differing factions within the Celtics and Clippers on the prudence of the deal, but the two teams have been in regular contact about the possibility, sources said.

Nevertheless, the biggest hurdle could ultimately center on Garnett's willingness to waive his no-trade clause and accept a deal to the Clippers.
Because of his home in Malibu, and a close relationship with Clippers guard Chauncey Billups, there's hope that Garnett, a 15-time All-Star, could be coaxed into accepting a trade if an agreement is reached, sources said.

The Clippers had expressed reluctance to several teams about parting with Bledsoe until they were certain that Chris Paul would re-sign this summer to a long-term deal, sources said. The organization has become increasingly confident that Paul will stay, but every franchise decision is made within the context of how it will impact Paul, and how he feels about it.

There's strong sentiment within parts of the organization that Garnett gives the Clippers a chance to compete for a championship this season. He could spread the floor for the Clippers and open up the lane for Blake Griffin. In the short term, the re-emergence of Billups could cut into Bledsoe's minutes the rest of this season.

For the Celtics, Bledsoe, 23, and Jordan, 24 would give Boston two young players with significant upside to start a revamp of the roster. With Rajon Rondo returning next season from an ACL injury, it's unclear how the Celtics would proceed, but it could ultimately give them a chance to use a healthy Rondo in trade scenarios.

Makes sense for both teams with Boston thinking long term and the Clips eyeing maybe a 2-year window with KG.

Mods please feel free to merge this with another thread if there already is one like it.
