Thank God, I hated when we would have a good offensive possession, get the defense scrambling, only for Marion to be the open man in the corner after the defensive rotations and miss the wide open three after good ball movement.

Remember when people were calling this guy "done"? :chuckle:

Yes, it's only 1 game, but he was playing well before the concussion & it proves he's still got it & can turn it on like a light switch.

I never understood how anyone can say he is done. The guy is a fighter. He looked completely done and everyone said he should retire in 2012 before he came up with THAT game against OKC in Game 5. Last season, he was very good and effective for Memphis coming off the bench. Mike Miller is still one of the best perimeter shooters in the game. He isn't as agile as he used to be but the guy is a master at stretching the floor and finding open space. He isn't a great defender but he gives his all and his understanding with LeBron would be a force to reckon with come play-offs time.

People seem really confident Mike Miller will go from completely useless to starter material in 24 hours...
You were on point here :chuckle:

Looked like Blatt was trying to get him time with various lineups tonight. When things settle down, I don't expect to see him play 34 minutes/game.

Hopefully the bench will start to figure it out. I thought they looked decent at the start of the 2nd quarter, but Blatt decided not to trust them with more minutes.

Is it just me, or do you also notice that on Miller's shots, the sound of the ball as it goes through the net is a bit different. Could be the high arc combined with the spin he puts on the ball, and the ball not/barely touching iron. I've observed this for years now.

I watched this like ten times last night wow what a fantastic looking shot when he is on my god. Anyways his shot is a lot like a dart player hitting a bullseye. He Has a very pin point shoot that he mastered and that high arch mixed with the spin like you said make more of a snap than a swish. There is another player in the NBA with a shot like this I can not think of his name but his swishes and shot arch are just like Mikes.

The 'snap' sound Snarly mentioned is, I think, from the heavy rotation (super spin) and the clean way the ball goes through the hoop (high arc helps this).

The guy is just a pure shooter, and as he said himself after the game, his tall frame makes the shot even easier for him. He has like perfect form.

What's great about Miller is that he's tall (probably a legitimate 6 foot 8 or close) and he seems to have pretty long arms as well. This helps him on defense (like that block he had against someone before he got hurt. I cant remember who it was) and it also helps him with rebounding. He's deceptively long.

What I remember about Miller when he was in Miami is that he would drill clutch threes and also get key rebounds and stops when the team had to have them. He's not getting any younger, but for now he's a great asset and if he's in shape enough to start, then let him start.

He also has a very high basketball iq and he knows how to play with LeBron. And, he seems to be a guy all his teammates love and get along with.

The best thing about starting Miller is that he opens up space for LeBron and Kyrie to drive. He has to be guarded on the perimeter.

If I were Blatt, I would have the
LeBron/Love/Miller trio on the court a lot together. Love needs LeBron to get him the ball, and LeBron needs Miller/Jones to help him get better and bigger driving lanes.

Miller is without a doubt one of the greatest shooters ever. As you said, he needs to be out there with Bron to be effective. He is long and has been a good rebounder in the league.

The problem has been his defense. Without any sugar coating, he is a liability.

Here's his On-Off court +/- Per 100 possessions starting with the 2006-2007 season:

-1.1, +4, -1.2, +.1, -12.3, +4.7, -7.1, -7.7, -16.7 (this year).

There haven't been too many times his teams have been better with him on court than with him off court in the past nine seasons. He played on some awful Memphis and TWolves teams, too but still wasn't a net positive factor.

If we didn't have so many negative defenders already on court other than he, he could be "hidden" some like he was in Miami when he was a better defender and give us value with his shooting like he did for the Heat. He has played for two winning teams this season and last and has had a negative +\- on court (-2.7 last year, -10.7 this year although very limited time). He was +10.3 and +3.6 during Miami's last two title runs when he was able to be hidden when guys like Wade, Bosh, James, and Battier were with him.

Starting Miller really seems to have stabilized the rest of the wing spots.
Marion looks much better going back to the forward spot and has more energy since he doesn't have to start. Dion gets to play now with Delly a lot so that helps him as well

Defense is always a concern with Miller but you kind of need that pure shooter to get the best of out of all the attention the starters get.
