Windhorst Radio Show & Updates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not sure if we need a shit defender like Amare but if it's an excuse to fire up the safari again, I'm all in.

I'm from Princeton.... uh oh

I would absolutely take a guy averaging 12-7-1 on 55% shooting with a 19.4 PER in 25 minutes a game.

I would take him so fucking fast it's not even funny.

Is this a realistic possibility?

If he's bought out and wants to win, then yes I would say it definitely is. Plus, Windy noted that Griffin and he were friends in Phoenix, so that can't hurt our cause.

The real question is whether or not the Knicks decide to buy him out.

I am not saying that Blatt is right about everything. Not at all. But Windhorst is also wrong to imply that Blatt never admits errors - he took individual responsibility for the crappy 3rd-quarter rotations against Philadelphia, but I doubt the national reporters heard about that...

I think Windy's core mistake on this is his assumption that Blatt's public statements mirror what he actually thinks. Assuming that he actually ignored the ISO data (which he likely was aware of anyway) just because he didn't credit it publicly is just not sound reasoning. And even if he wasn't aware of the specific numbers put together by ESPN, he certainly has watched the games enough to have an excellent sense of what those statistics would be if they were actually crunched.

The guy has consistently preached ball movement, so to infer that he's somehow ignorant regarding the effect of too much isolation makes no sense.

I'm not minding the ISO strategy as much as the historically frustrating Lebron ISO days in his first stint with Cleveland. We now have Kyrie, Lebron, and JR who are all actually pretty damn effective in isolation and then Kevin Love who can essentially go ISO in the post

Right, and I think that's one of the reasons Blatt downplayed the ISO issue. First, attacking "ISO" could be viewed by some (or maybe one) as an implied attack on LBJ, to which he might take offense. And second, as you point out, ISO plays sometimes work really well. We had that game against the Thunder where top of the key ISO is what the Thunder decided to give up defensively (and what the Blazers decided to give up with Kyrie), and both abused the defenses for doing that.

I think it's different now than it was when LBJ was here the first time. LeBron pretty much was the only ISO player we had. Now we have 3 guys that can go 1 on 1. Heck even JR and Shumpert have shown at times to either drive to the lane effectively and draw fouls or create their own 3 pointer. We simply have more options available to us on offense now.

As somoeone who went to a competitor Princetononians often come across as arrogant.

Technically University of Phoenix is a competitor. :chuckle:

Blatt is a lot like Pop in that he makes it known when he is being made to eat shit. Here he is Israel, when a guy that worked with a certain media organization that was publishing untrue stories about his team tried to ask a question:

If this guys wins a ring and gets that status in the NBA, he's just not going to put up with stuff. Probably get fined a bit, but won't care. Right now, he has to begrudgingly go with it.

This whole ISO thing seems like a huge example of nit-picking if the following is true:

http://espn.go.com/blog/cleveland-cavaliers/post/_/id/412/cavs-looking-like-real-contender-to-lebron

The Cavs were about to win their 12th straight later that night, so there was nothing alarming in the moment about the fact that 12.1 of their 101.7 points per game as a team came off isos. But still, the evidence was there -- thanks to some digging by ESPN Stats & Info -- that none of the past five NBA champs ranked in the top five in that category (even James' Miami teams ranked eighth in 2012-13 and 12th in 2011-12 with all of his and Dwyane Wade's individual mastery off the dribble).

So we are doomed because 11.8% of our offense comes from a slightly tougher style of basketball? When I heard that we were top in ISO offense I assumed it was like 45% or something.

I mean holy shit, National media. Not only is this an insanely small percentage of our offense, but this is also an incredibly small sample size of championship teams that can't really be viewed as scientific at all. Furthermore, are you really going to tell me that there is a huge difference between 5 and 8, since Miami won a title at that spot in those standings.

Blatt not listening to espn's stats is probably a lot to do with the fact that this will not be new information for him. If you think the cavs don't know the efficiency and spread of their various styles of play then I think you like windy underestimate the size of the analytic department

Not to mention, LBJ's older ISO days coincided with him being such a hot and cold jump shooter. Those jumpers that I used to grimace at the sight of our now going in at a highly efficient rate. It's truly amazing to see how LBJ's shooting ability has increased. His shot has always looked a little funny when compared to the great shooters of all time but that doesn't matter when it's going in.

Regarding Blatt...the media is butt hurt over his ego but i truly believe that is "his way" of handling the media. Honestly, what does the media expect? They've nit-picked every little thing he has done all year. All of our problems were his fault. Hell, they even had me practically calling for his head. Looking back it's obvious that the personnel wasn't there coupled with injuries but yet, i believed Blatt was to blame for our team's ineptitude.

Now that we are the hottest team in the NBA and look like a true contender, Blatt's ego is now the problem? The problem is that the best player in the planet returned home to a championship-starved town and there needs to be a new story everyday, regardless of our record.

You know who else is icy towards the media? Popovich! But since he is a proven winner is "ego" isn't questioned. In fact, his icy ways are now a part of the shtick. Stupid questions are posed to him just to get that reaction from him. It is easy to get caught up in the bullshit and perhaps Blatt is aware of that. He could call Windy a fat turd for all i care if we are winning.
