Cash for pick deals only work in the case that teams want to do it. With this year's draft that's not the case and I bet we won't see any cash for pick swaps. Should also mention, that if these deal are available, we'd still be able to do that as well!

Plus as already mentioned: losing Sessions helps in terms of draft position for us.

I liked that Gilbert's checkbook helped make this trade, rather than having Sessions just opt out at the end of the season. They spent money and got something.

Sure, the trade could have been even better. But would it be better if they hadn't made this move? Not seeing that.

Great trade, it is hard to get first round picks for a bench player (good as he may be) like Sessions.

I bet we all will be glad after we use the Lakers draft pick!

This is an A. If you think otherwise, you had very unrealistic expectations of Ramon's value.

Sessions was leaving after the season so basically the Cavs 'bought' the Lakers pick by taking on Luke's contract.

Under the new CBA teams can only use cash to buy one draft pick a year. With all their picks I doubt they buy one this year but at least they still have the option to do so if the opportunity presents itself during the draft.

OK this wasn't a blockbuster but the Cavs will own 4 of the top 38 picks based on today's standings. With NJ improving and the Cavs losing Sessions I'm going to assume their lottery position will improve over the next 6 weeks.

We jettisoned someone who was gone after this season, picked up an expiring contract next season, and got another first round pick?

Solid B, the goal all along was Sessions for the Lakers#1 and that's what happened, everything else is fluff, although Walton's expiring contract may come in handy a year from now.

Correction from earlier: In Lakers-Cavs trade, it is Cavs who have right to swap Heat pick they own with Lakers pick in 2013.

Chris Grant the master mind he is.

Windy just said the Cavs will have the right next year to swap the Lakers 2013 pick with Miami's 2013. Does that mean the Cavs got a 2012 AND 2013???

That can't be right. Its against the rules.

the expiring contracts next year won't matter because we'll likely be under the cap.

I think Hollinger is off just because of this. I'm not sure teams will want to sell first rounders this year. So we pick up an extra first rounder just in case the picks aren't available for sale and if they are we and we are able to buy another pick, this allows us in essence to break the bounds of the CBA and buy two picks

Plus I think we have the right to make the switch next year not the Lakers

which team got the right to swap picks next year, it's been reported both ways.

You were right, looks like there was confusion:

Makes a little more sense now in giving up Eyenga and take on Walton...

I usually like Hollinger but he's completely wrong... I don't see how anyone could think we lost this trade... Sessions market value was a 1st round pick, which is what we got.. It's either that or let him walk free... I'll take the pick and a chance at a better pick next year too...
