Maybe it's just me but playing "classic" games from the last console or two has never been a draw at all. The idea seems cool because you remember how fun it was playing these games, but then you pop it in for the first time in 4 years and you quickly realize that the controls, experience and graphics especially don't live up to what you remember in your head. Reminds me of when I threw Goldeneye in the 64 and was blown away by how bad it was. The first time I put the original Twisted Metal (PS1) in my PS2 I thought the system was actually degrading the graphics, it looked that bad. I just think the nostalgia will wear away rather quickly with this Halo stuff, and I was a huge fan of the first two.

Well, they are re-mastering the graphics for Halo 2 and they are updating the resolution for the other Halos.

But I am concerned that the slower paced gameplay styles of the older Halos will feel real awkward now.

Anyways, all I care about is Halo 1 and Halo 2 online multiplayer. Those alone will make this Halo package worth it for me.

Do you have a investment in Sony MDog? Do you make money from them? You come across as a huge Sony fan boy threw out this thread, I'm just hoping you at least get some money from doing so.

Oh I fully want Microsoft to exit the games business. The harm they have caused is irreparable. What they wanted to do with DRM was horrible.

I have no affection for any franchise of theirs outside Fable, and Fable 3 was horrible. Let them burn.

I have no ties to Sony either, or Nintendo. My favorite game is call of duty zombies, as long as I get that I am fine, couldn't care less if it is on Sony, ms, Nintendo, apple, Google, Samsung, or a Goodyear console, I will buy it.

Sony isn't perfect, but they have never actively tried to harm my hobby. Ms to this day is defending DRM.

Edit: I should add I like some of sony's games. Uncharted is fun, tlou is great, and I love infamous. Again, of the 11 games I own 1 of them is a Sony game, infamous. The rest are 3rd party, so let Sony burn too, bring in a competent competitor who doesn't charge for online.

Mdog is right in a lot more ways than he mentioned. Microsoft's efforts for the last 20 years have actually set gaming back dramatically. We are finally entering an era where game developers/publishers are refusing to have operating system manufacturers dictate terms to them.

To hell with Microsoft and their shitty products.

But can we all at least agree that they made the best controller? :chuckles:

That thing is seriously GOAT.

the Duke? Cuz the dualshock 4 is GOAT otherwise

Totally disagree. Both the 360 and Xbone controllers are better than the DS4. Not even an argument. The only thing the DS4 does better is the D-pad, which most games barely even use any more.

The DS4 was a huge upgrade from the DS3, though. That thing was a piece of shit.

I prefer DS4 to xbox 360 controller, and I own both. To be fair though, I don't play competitive shooters and I know people rave about the 360 controller for those.

Halo 2 is a much faster paced game than any FPS out today.. If by pace you mean the rate at which you die, well, that's different. But the gameplay itself -- fucking plays as fast as a fighting game.

For FPS I prefer the 360 controller, by far.

For everything else, I'd actually take a sixaxis... Just keepin' it real.. I preferred the light weight, even though the damn thing fell apart so easily.

Have you tried the DS4 over the DS3 gouri? MUCH improved.

Best controller ever?

I think the first DS is probably the "best ever." When it came out, it successfully brought back analog controls that worked, and it's layout was really just an extension of the SNES controller. Look at it.. it's a SNES controller with extra L/R buttons, and two analog sticks tacked on.

The second best would probably be the 6-button Sega Genesis controller (or the Saturn controller). It was absolutely perfect for D-Pad based games, which were obviously 99.9% of all games at the time. The SNES had a better button layout for adventure games, but not fighters, and it's D-Pad wasn't anywhere near as good.

Also the Genesis controller plugged into pretty much ever Atari-era console and it worked!

Best controller of this generation? Really a tie.. if you play FPS, predominantly, then the 360 controller... if you play mostly anything else, particularly racing, RPGs, or anything that requires high precision in all degrees of movement of your thumb? The DS4.

I think when the Steam Machines finally launch, they'll probably take the "best controller ever" crown with their touchpad thumbpads.

You sound like you're talking about most innovative rather than best. The 360 controller didn't re-invent the wheel. The wheel didn't need re-inventing at the time. It just needed some polish, and that's what the 360 offered. There's a reason I still use that controller for PC games (that aren't better with mouse and keyboard...Watch Dogs for example) over any other offering. It's simply the best.

I also love that the 360 (and Xbone) controllers prioritize the joystick over the D-pad, too. It feels like they actually have a sense of what types of games people are actually playing these days. The DS4's stick placement still feels stuck in the past.
