Tressel knew of gear scheme last April

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If they're making long-term decisions based on "what a circus primetime games throughout the entire year" would look like....they should all GTFO.

With OSU football next year, ALL games will be primetime.

You didn't address the points of my post.

Your "point" is the opinion that Tressel staying somehow villifies or damages the long-term stability of this program....which is pure conjecture at this point.

You tried to emphasize your point by looking in the short-term, looking at primetime games next year and the circus they will be.

If OSU cares about the furthered hype surrounding games....then they should all be fired.

Do you really think, in your wildest dreams....that firing Tressel REMOVES the microscope from which they'll be under?

I don't even think YOU believe that....so why should we.

Whether they do more or not on August 12th is nothing but opinion at this point....and mine is thatthey're not going to bring a USC-like hammer down on a self-reporter.

Clearly, OSU has made the decision to stick with JT....it's time to start living with it.

I'm looking at other high school kids AND their parents as well. Who might be thinking about which school to enroll at to play football. As a parent, do I want to see the giant circus surrounding OSU and EACH game AND Jim Tressel? If that's what I see, do I think good thoughts about the OSU program for keeping Tressel on even though he lied and was suspended, or do I think bad thoughts and sway my kid to enroll somewhere else?

boobie; I understand you like/love Jim Tressel. I really do. At what point do you say he needs to resign? Is there any point to where you might come to that conclusion? Doesn't the overall future outlook of the OSU football program mean anything to you?

BTW: Self-reporter of what? Who self-reported whom? NO ONE FROM OSU said one damn word about Pryor until they were caught. What the F are you talking about? Self reporting my ass. You are proving to be in absolute and total and complete denial. What's wrong with you? Even when the stuff was made public Tressel continued to lie and deny any knowledge. Who the hell self reported? :chuckles:

Most parents and kids go to Columbus and see it for themselves that it's not the brothel you're making it out to be...

At what point has anything changed since this whole mess started?

You're acting like more allegations have been brought against JT that the school, nor NCAA were made aware of.

It seems like you're escalating this whole thing far more than it actually is.

Ohio State self-reported the violations....argue it all you like, it's what happened.

Your argument has been debated to death in here. No need to get back into it again. Your argument was lost many times over. Tressel lied. Somehow you don't quite get it.

But you're making it seem as though Tressel is slime, when in fact he's been great for the kids who have committed 4-5 years to him. Grad rates are up and the program has been considered first class. Remove tattoo-gate and Trssel's huge mistake and you have a guy who has been nothing short of a miracle for a university.

Him leaving the program impacts every player currently at the university negatively because he's that good of a person.

Maybe I should bow down to him then or something? I'm a fan of the Ohio State University Football Program. Not of the liar who happens to be the current head coach. This football program is now in a bunch of trouble because of #1. Pryor and the boys. #2 Tressel hiding the truth of Pryor and the boys. The OSU Chiefs are making themselves look real bad because they are now standing behind this liar who covered up for these Baby Boys.

OSU football will pay for these bad mistakes.

It does appear many in here know Jim personally. I don't. I realize he's done real well as a head coach for OSU, but I don't know him like you all seem to know him. You say he has great character, etc. That's great. Because of what he did, I see otherwise. Others do as well. You may not like it, but those are the facts. We shall see how the NCAA feels about it in a few months.

I've never pretended to care how people view Tressel.

The people who are jumping off board because of one mistake in an otherwise remarkable career as an educator...enjoy. Quite frankly there are just as many people who were ungrateful for what Tressel has done for this program over the last decade. I'd imagine most of these two groups are one in the same.

That is MY opinion of the situation, but I'm not jumping out the window after one misstep....which we don't even know the full severity of at this point.

One of the only coaches in the country who takes time to actually instruct a class on campus. This guy is getting some really unfair treatment in here. He lied, but also didn't hang his players. Wrong for sure, but you act like the guy was molesting children then eating them. Scumbag? Nothing but a liar? Please.

The true character comes out from those who've been around them for a long period of time. Ray Small was given the chance to publicly bash Tressel, but didn't even go further than saying they were at odds. I feel like all you guys are reading is one-sided articles written by writers with an agenda.

For the record, I grew up an OSU fan and they remain my 2nd favorite team. I am not rooting for them to go down, but the reality is they are in alot of trouble. I have known people over the years who I have respected very much that are personal friends with Tressel and speak very highly of him as a person and friend. So I am not saying he is a bad or evil person. But, he has messed up Big Time. Those that feel otherwise are in denial. Good guys mess up too. Also,. this isnt the first time Tressel has been linked to inapropriate car benifits. Its by my count the 4th time since his YSU days.

And yes I am a Purdue fan. I hate Michigain almost as much as Notre Dame and IU though and now Nebraska is joining the Big Ten. I live among tons of Nebraska fans and they are very annoying. I need OSU to stay on top so I am not rooting for them to go down. I am just a realist.

Also, I feel even with heavy sanctions against OSU, they will remain a top 5 program and a decent coach will have them back in no time. Ohio is a top 5 state for football recruits, and one of only 2 schools who are the only dominate program in a top 5 State. Cincy, Toledo, Kent, etc will never get recruits that OSU wants, so they really arent competition like they have in Florida, Cali, or Texas.,

What gets me though is reading all these people who dont get how big of a deal this is. If you are an OSU fan, you should be pissed at Tressel, not defending. You guys are like the over protective parent that when you your kid gets in trouble,. instead of dealing with the kid you start yelling at the teachers and princapal and blame them. Its time you hold your coach responsible for his own bad actions. Dont tell me that other kids do it all the time, dont tell me that lying to the NCAA and now other benifit issues isnt that bad. Dont tell me that he doesnt have a history of this when he does. Face the music, this is bad, this wont go away easily and yes you should distance yourself from Tressel now because he will be fired or resign eventually and the healing wont begin until you move on. This holding pattern is not helping anyone.

I agree with most of this actually....

Very aware he's something wrong, very disappointed in his actions.

That said, nobody has linked Tressel to this car investigation to my knowledge....and the problems during his YSU days were the actions of a donor, not Tressel himself. And nothing has garnered enough proof for people to believe otherwise IMO.

Also, people who claim to be a "realist," generally have been the type to say this only after overreacting to a situation which has yet to play out. From my personal experience anyway...

The only thing linking him to the cars at this point is a bitter ex player who brought up cars before and the testimony of a known felon at YSU. (btw, isnt everyone that lives in Youngstown a known felon?)

I get the car thing doesnt have legs yet, but there is definately smoke. As for the lying thing, that alone is bad enough to get Tressel fired or atleast have the NCAA to force OSU to fire Tressel. I dont think the University itself is out of control, but I will say that I think the boosters at OSU are as bad as any in the country. The only thing that has saved OSU over the years is having people with integrity in the various coach staffs and administration. Its that integrity and belief in Tressel that is keeping him in place, problem is its the wrong move this time. Tressel will not recover from this one.

As a Youngstown native, I can safely say I only have one misdemeanor underage alcohol/disorderly conduct on my record and no felonies.

And I think MOST coaches would be fired given the same set of circumstances, but with Tressel's history as an educator and as one of the most upstanding guys in the NCAA there is reasonable grounds to let him overcome this.

I think he's earned that right.

An esteemed person in the league who is far closer than you or I backing up Jim. Again, wrong doing, but not the scum bag some in here are trying to make him.

Nebraska's Tom Osborne backs Jim Tressel

By Adam Rittenberg

CHICAGO -- Tom Osborne and Jim Tressel go way back.

The two coaches -- one current, one former -- have been friends for years. Last spring, Osborne invited Tressel to Nebraska to tour the school's athletic facilities and speak at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet. Tressel shuffled Ohio State's spring practice schedule so he could make the trip to Lincoln.

"When coach Osborne calls you, you do what he asks," Tressel told reporters last April.

The respect is mutual, even as Tressel endures unprecedented scrutiny after admitting to withholding information that showed Ohio State players committed NCAA violations.

Osborne, speaking Monday at the Big Ten spring meetings, voiced his support for Tressel.

"I don't really know enough about [Ohio State's situation]," Osborne said. "I do know Jim Tressel, and I believe that Jim's an honorable person. There will be those who will criticize me for saying that, but I think I know Jim's character. What happened, I don't know a lot about the details. I certainly hope for his sake that things turn out OK, and for Ohio State."

Tressel's self-imposed five-game suspension ends Oct. 8 when his Buckeyes visit Lincoln to face Nebraska. The coach and other Ohio State officials are scheduled to appear Aug. 12 before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, which could issue additional penalties before the Ohio State-Nebraska game or shortly thereafter.

"When you're out on the road recruiting, you're not usually worried about Ohio State trying to cheat to get a player," Osborne said. "I just don't think they would do that. That's not in their DNA. It looks like there was a mistake made, but I don't know much more about the details."

Osborne also weighed in Monday on the state of violations in college football. Although the Ohio State case and the Cam Newton situation from last year have put the spotlight on improprieties in the sport, Osborne has seen much worse.

"There was cars, clothes and cash back in the 60s and the 70s," Osborne said. "And then [when] Southern Methodist got the death penalty in 1985, you began to see a real tamping down of those kinds of things. ... Today the violations are more subtle and I don't think as frequent.

"The scrutiny is much greater today, so sometimes it seems to the average observer that there's way more cheating. I can tell you from having been there and having experienced it and having dealt with it, it's not as bad today as it was."
