In a weird way I think I having JJ and all his problems last year really helped the Cavs figure out what they want from their PF. All we heard last year was JJ’s dumb, has no hands, doesn’t block out, has no intangibles, doesn’t play defense, and then people defending him, but he’s producing, he’s young , he ‘s growing as a player, etc.
I really believe JJ’s play led or helped in the Cavs drafting a no bullshit PF in TT. Now if it’s the right decision or not nobody will be able to tell for a few years. Not just what he does but was Jonas does and Biyombo does as well in comparison. But I do like the pick and think it will work out.
I think this board and Cavs fans all over will love watching TT play. All the negatives about JJ on defense, intangibles, blocking out, and basketball IQ are exactly the opposite for TT. That will not be a problem. I guess people will have to find something else to bitch about with TT. Maybe if they expect him to average 20 ppg and he’s only averaging 13, but doing everything else very well, idk.
I think this sets the Cavs up nicely to have Irving and our 2012 pick (probably a wing), being our main scorers. Finding our third scorer will the key, maybe it’s TT, maybe somebody else. Our interior defense should be very good, but I if TT is our PF of the future, we might not be able to count on very much scoring from our bigs, considering it is extremely hard to find a scoring center. But who knows maybe TT defies the odds and becomes a legitimate scoring threat (at least 20 ppg), along with everything else he brings to the table.
All in all, the Cavs are finally going in a direction and they seem to know what they want. Solid players, good personalities, hard workers, tough players, cares about defense. My guess is the more they like what they see from TT, the closer JJ’s foot gets to the door, but they have to feel absolutely sure about him first.
Picking 4th in this draft with Kanter and Williams gone was not a good spot to be in, but I do believe the Cavs made the best of their pick. Even if TT never averages more than 15 ppg. I know people will always be saying he not or he wasn’t worthy of the 4th overall pick, but who at that spot really was, considering everything? In a normal year the players there at 4 would most likely be the players there at picking around 8th or 9th overall, maybe even later. In this draft, when judging TT, it's unfair to compare him to being the 4th overall pick and was he worthy of that but rather to is/was he the best or close to the best player that was available considering who was there at 4.
