Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

Let's say the Kings are the 8th seed next year, and that means they have the 15th pick. That is still a nice place to be since next years draft is going to be stacked.

That's some nice thinking there, and the kings are all more mature and have quite a bit of scoring now. They could make a possible (albeit unlikely) playoff run.

Guys, this could be used to trade up for another top 10 pick. Or maybe it's unprotected in 2013, and we land Andre Drummond after the Kings tank horribly. :)

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

We don't have to trade JJ right now though, so why settle on lottery protected pick? Down the road, teams might get more desperate and we get a little to no protection on the pick.

Then again, his value to other teams might slip as their contractual hold on him gets shorter and shorter. After all, if you see him as an asset, wouldn't you rather have him for a full season rather than a half? And it's always possible potential suitors move on to other players if they can't do that deal now. Then there's the chance that the season is killed by a labor dispute, in which case teams aren't going to be trading for anyone.

Good deal, especially if the pick is less protected in 2013.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

We may not see it next year, but we will down the road. The protection will lessen, and it may work out well. The Pistons sat on a protected pick and had the #2 overall after winning 50 games.

And took Darko.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

Fully unprotected in 2015? I might not even be alive by then

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

Probballdraft Besides @Sacramentokings the #Bobcats and #Nets had shown a lot of interest in trading for Hickson before the draft. @Cavs targeted #Kings

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

Whoa, whoa whoa. We are not a contender for another 4 years atleast. Casspi won't even be here.
So the Cavs would be trading for a young player whom they do not consider to be a long-term rotational player in Cleveland? That'd make it even worse.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

I don't mind the deal. It's still a first-round pick in a draft that will still be considered much better than the one that just passed. Also, the Cavs were able to net a player they've coveted for some time it seems in Casspi, shoring up the SF position in the process.

The other big factor is that they are selling high on JJ's value. There is no guarantee that Hickson could have improved his value this season, and due to injury/laziness/etc. he could have put up lower numbers than last year.

Many here complain so much about Hickson - I mean, he's called Shyt by many here - you got to realize the team is getting a FIRST ROUNDER for their "Shyt". I'll take it any day.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

This will probably push Dan Gilbert to increase the requirement for young players to be draft eligible.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

So. Does this move make anyone else extremely doubtful that the TPE won't be used?

I totally agree, but there is a pretty big degree of luck involved here.

IF they were able to get the 8th seed, it would be lower than the 15th pick seeing how it goes by record of playoff teams for picks 15-30. Last years 8th seed in the West picked 20th.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

I'm upset. I think we could have got max value out of JJ in a mid season trade. People forget the numbers he was putting up near the end of the season. He is a legit 20 and 10 guy. I know he doesn't play any D but man, a lotto protected pick from the Kings? How does it fall from top 6 to lotto protected? It's not like our backs were against the wall or anything on this.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

So now it looks like we have 7 first round picks in the next four drafts. Should be fun.

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

Where would cassipi be drafted in the past draft? Top 10?

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

This reminds me of the Marko Jeric trade.
In the summer of 2005, the Clippers and Timberwolves made a trade that sent Serbian guard Marko Jaric in exchange for veteran point guard Sam Cassell and a future first round pick.

LA owns that pick next year.
