Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Is Amare Jewish too? I remember something about him going to Israel on some religious journey last summer.

Amare is not Jewish. He might have Jewish blood, I guess, but he wasn't born Jewish and doesn't practice. He's Jewish in the way those Hollywood weirdos who practice Kabbalah are Jewish; not really.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Tell me im not the only 1 who was really excited reading the end of the propection bit, assuming that in 2017 it would become unprotected, just to learn that it turns into a second rounder.

But let's be optimistic. We know now that gilbert has been talked down from trying to win quickly, and that's GREAT news.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

No, I'd rather get a draft pick less protected than one that we may never even be able to use.

Look cum stuff, easier said than done. If this was the best value the Cavs could have gotten for a guy that was going to walk at the end of the season, than so be it. I'm not thrilled about the protection either, but you act as if trades are a piece of cake to execute.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Again I ask exactly how many people (experts or not) had TT projected as the 4th best pro prospect? I think he's a questionable pick, but I certainly was not in the minority with that.

John Hollinger, basically the king of advanced basketball metrics, thought he was the 3rd best player in the draft. Not sure after that, most would admit that 3-15 in the draft were pretty much the same type of player. Certainly not enough of a reason to be as pissed as you were/are about TT.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

You guys are doubting Casspi, I don't think you guys are aware of what he can do:

After watching that video a few times I came away with he always seems to dribble into traffic, and he needs to work on his footwork. But he's good in the open space. So I guess its not that bad.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Might this trade be more about assuring the Cavs OWN pick in 2012 is a high(er) pick ? JJ was not viewed as a long term piece......so he is out, and that gets us more ping pong balls in what is said to be an extremely good 2012 draft. Also allows TT to develop more. Ummmm, that is, of course, if there is a '11-'12 season at all.

Addition by subtraction (first time I heard that phrase was in relation to the Chip Banks trade......anyone remember that ?)

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Casspi was simply in a bad situation with the Kings. I'm convinced that he's the guy we wanted in 09' in the draft. I feel like his experience with the Kings soured right away and he could use a fresh start. I think we just picked up a solid piece to the puzzle and got rid of an absolute moron that Byron Scott probably wanted to throw through a window. I don't think that there was a lot of interest in JJ. Doubt too many teams want to pay what he is will demand. He's the exact type of player that we don't want on the team. Good riddance to him and welcome Casspi!

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

People need to focus less on what we got in return and instead more on how Hickson fit into the Cavs timeline.

We are still gutting this roster. The Kyrie Iriving Era is about to start and the kid is only 19. It would be detrimental to the growth of the franchise to pay JJ Hickson $10 million a year before Kyrie is ready to lead the team and while we're still trying to load up on high draft picks.

Also, Hickson's advanced numbers were terrible. Being top 15 in usage but outside the top 60 in true shooting percentage basically means Hickson was an ineffective black hole on offense.

The draft pick and Casspi are icing. The cake is not having JJ on the roster.

so, your entire premise is based on the assumption that there was a better draft pick out there in terms of protection and cleveland didn't take it. or, perhaps in the real world the choice was this deal, a worse deal, or no deal.

Cum Stuff? :chuckles:

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

i'm guessing we are undervaluing how much grant and scott like Casspi. ITs been rumored that they've been after him for a while, so i'm guessing that part of the deal wsa just as important as the draft pick, and maybe why they didn't get a great value on the pick - because they also got Casspi. Purely speculating, but that would make sense.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Realistically, how soon are the Kings in the playoffs? 3 Years?

They missed out on the #8 spot by 20+ games last season.

This is essentially dumping the Cavs best trade asset for an inefficient SF with limited upside and a lottery pick that's never going to get it's protection pulled.

I'm trying to figure out why people are actually happy about this one?

I've been on board with almost every front office move thus far but it just sounds like we panicked when Sacramento wouldn't go top 6 protected.

This is a HUGE risk, one that is more likely to blow up in our face than it is to yield anything of significance.

I'm rarely if ever critical in these situations but I just don't get it. The protection is insane. It's top 10 protected through 2017. Unreal.

If nothing else, why didn't we have a provision to flip picks to satisfy the trade? That seems like it would have been more worthwhile (increasing top 3 odds in 2012) than waiting 5 years for a second round pick that is, get this, conditional as well.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I am not a Hickson fan but I still can't shake the fact that we traded a 22 year-old PF who averaged 17 pts and 11 rbs after the All-Star Break for, well, essentially nothing. Disappointed.

"He padded his stats at the 5 and doesn't play defense."

Is the only way I'm rationalizing this.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

And suddenly every Cavaliers fan became a Jimmer fan. The Kings have so much young talents that hopefully they figure it out of the next couple years and get in the playoffs as a #8 seed, but if a couple of their players bust I doubt we ever see this pick. I do like Omri quite a bit, and glad to see him in a Cavaliers uniform.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I like this trade a lot. Gets us a 1st rd pick from a team that will probably not be very good. I am just glad the headache of Hickson is finally gone. Betta get my Donuts
