Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

seems like a pretty worthless trade...especially with all the protection on that pick...if the pick wasn't protected, it would be totally worth it...but we probably won't be seeing that pick for years to come...so we basically just swapped a decent player for a slightly worse player...

My guess is that Grant just wanted to get rid of Hickson ASAP because he knew Hickson would be demanding way too much in his next contract, so he decided to get rid of him now. Grant also probably didn't want Hickson's terrible attitude to poison the young guys coming in......Grant wanted to start with a clean slate and get rid of all players who might have bad attitudes or bad work ethic...start a whole new team culture without any slackers.

You guys are doubting Casspi, I don't think you guys are aware of what he can do:

Re: Cavaliers on verge of Hickson for Casspi

Grant clearly settled. This is what happens when you trade a guy when his value is at an all time low, and when you've announced to the league that you don't want him on your team (drafting Thompson, Hickson's contract expiring).

The Cavs love of Hickson and failure to evaluate him over the years has really hurt this team..

So what you will about the trade, but don't suggest for 1 second that the Cavs balked out of the Amar'e talks. That was all on the Suns.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Plus the painful thing to reason is twofold..Grant mastered the Davis/unprotected pick which turned into Irving..so is he that incompetent not to be able to garner something more valuable(I still have doubts about him) or was that realistically the best deal he could get for JJ?
Better not find out there was a better deal on the table..
Sac knew what happened to their rival in that deal and wasn't about to give up a unprotected pick..but I still want to know what the other teams were (un)willing to give up?

To expect Grant to land another unprotected lottery pick is to assume that most franchises in the NBA are as inept as the Clippers. They're not.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I don't know, and I know that you feel TT is a questionable pick, but honestly that's just your opinion. This trade is unproven right now, looks pretty bad because of the protection, but I don't think it will be any hindrance towards building a contender or not. I think you just don't like Grant and will criticize him because you don't like his way of building. That's fine, that's your own opinion and I cannot and don't really want to convince you otherwise, but so far, it's just your opinion.
Again I ask exactly how many people (experts or not) had TT projected as the 4th best pro prospect? I think he's a questionable pick, but I certainly was not in the minority with that.

Well, you can question him all you want, no one is keeping you but he just started. He also got us the guy everyone is having in their avatars now, I guess that could count as a pretty good move to build a contender, don't you think?
Again, he traded for a 2.8% chance at #1 and upon receiving #1 he was presented with an idiot-proof option.

Of course drafting Irving was good. But how many people would've passed on him if they were in Grant's position?

I guess, if it makes you feel better, the Kings are renting JJ for a season, as they're not going to pay him. In exchange for that rental, we received a wing player who can score inside/outside, something we need, and a lotto protected pick until 2099.
Actually, I disagree. A couple months ago one of the Maloofs said they were going to spend, and frankly this move only makes sense if they DO extend him (but not at the outrageous price he is asking for, which is obv irrelevant bc he doesn't make the market).

Everyone knows they aren't going to contend next year so why trade a young player locked up for years for a guy who is going to be a free agent and won't immediately make the team a legitimate threat?

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I am not a Hickson fan but I still can't shake the fact that we traded a 22 year-old PF who averaged 17 pts and 11 rbs after the All-Star Break for, well, essentially nothing. Disappointed.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

How is Grant being blasted as if he's the only one in the room making these tough decisions? You bet your ass, Gilbert and Byron is in that same room agreeing to this shit.

The same three loved Tristian at 4 too. The same three loved dealing Hickson also. Come down to earth and respect this trade. WE ARE NOT WINNING ANYTIME SOON. Get that.

Just another part of the rebuilding process. Future. Talent. Winning. Yes. We. Did.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Ah man.... I like Casspi but I'm really I'm gonna miss JJ alot

fuck it.... the Kings are officially my second team

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

Currently the Kings have not been in the playoffs since 2006--

It would take a 10 year playoff drought for the Cavs not to get the Kings first round-- That would be near a record.

Record Playoffs droughts in the NBA
Streak Team
15 seasons Buffalo Braves/San Diego Clippers/Los Angeles Clippers 1977-1991
12 seasons Golden State Warriors 1995–2006
10 seasons Dallas Mavericks 1991–2000
9 seasons Golden State Warriors 1978–1986
9 seasons Sacramento Kings 1987–1995
9 seasons Utah Jazz 1975–1983
8 seasons Atlanta Hawks 2000–2007
8 seasons Denver Nuggets 1996–2003
8 seasons Los Angeles Clippers 1998–2005
8 seasons Memphis Grizzlies 1996–2003
8 seasons Washington Bullets 1989–1996

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

so, you'd rather let marginally productive players walk in FA then get something of value in return for them. got it.

No, I'd rather get a draft pick less protected than one that we may never even be able to use.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

I am a bit torn on this trade. First, I am one of the few that like Triston. Sure he is late lottery in most drafts, but with kanter gone, he might have been the best left.

Now lets talk trading JJ for Casspi straight up. Both had simular production in simular minutes, casspri wasnt really give a full shot at sacromento and JJ was given a ton of shots and just couldnt defend or catch the ball.

But here is where the trade is weird. We insisited on a 1st, but with so much protection on the 1st round pick it basically nulifies the pick. My point? Why make the trade with that much protection. Protect it for 3 years if you must, but until 2017 and top 10 the whole time?

I just hope we send the pick in a package deal before a team realizes how useless that pick most likely will be. That said, this team is better with casspri instead of JJ straight up. JJ is in last year of contract, will get overpaid, and is basically a rental. Casspri is signed for 3 more years and will fit in much better than JJ.

No one expected it to be unprotected, they just didn't expect it to be that protected.

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

The entire U.S. thinks CTown is a shit hole. Now the entire middle east is going to hate us as well. #buyingducktapelockingdoors

Again, he traded for a 2.8% chance at #1 and upon receiving #1 he was presented with an idiot-proof option.

And that somehow makes it worse move?

Re: Hickson traded to Kings for Casspi and 1st Rd Pick

If there is a lockout, this trade made a ton of sense.

If the lockout is avoided, we got robbed.
