Cleveland Indians Offseason News, Notes, and Rumors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Buster Olney said earlier on SC that if the Marlins do end up signing Albert Pujols they would make Gaby Sanchez available, and the Indians and Cubs would be among those interested.

Take it for what it's worth.

EDIT: Looks like I was late to the party. :chuckles:

Acta just told us @mlbnetworkradio that after the signings of Lowe and Sizemore they couldn't afford a high payroll bat unless they move $

Good thing we got Lowe, though.

That narrows down the options a bit.

And while I'm not excited about Lowe, the injuries to Carrasco and now Rondon left the team without much depth. $5 million was still cheap for the FA pitching market.

It also gave the team some flexibility to include a pitcher in a deal. There are a lot of young arms, and without Lowe it would be hard to part with Gomez or Barnes in any potential deal.

I haven't heard one thing about the Indians besides from that bogus incarceratedbob. I'm under the suspicion Grady will be our only big thing, and Antonetti was just spewing bullshit yesterday.

I'd say that is probably an 85% chance of happening.

And b00bie and sgm will still try to spin it, unfortunately.

Kidding guys, kidding, I love ya. Well, it is true actually. :chuckles:

I'm about as big a Kool-Aid drinker as there is, but if they fail to acquire a big bat, I'm going to be very down on this season. Even a Derek Lee type guy would at least be an upgrade.

Another quick thought - everyone was freaking out about the Casey Blake / Mark DeRosa rumors - but with Hannahan and Donald on the roster, another utility guy doesn't make sense. I wonder if Chisenhall is being dangled in trades and they are looking for depth if they move him.

Normally not much into trade scenarios but a friend of mine brought up a good point to compound on my post above...

We know the Tribe has looked at Derosa / Blake and that they've told Brantley to get ready to play 1B.

If they were to deal for Ramirez, put ACab back at 2B and move Kipnis back to LF it would solve a lot of issues.

The deal would probably require Chisenhall, a start and some relievers...

Hannahan / Donald could handle 3B and Brantley would platoon at 1B with Santana and whoever stays out of Blake/LaPorta/Duncan.

Acta just said they couldn't take on salary so if they were to move Carmona it would free up the money.

Again - just wild speculation, but there is some flexibility there.

Nope! If they don't acquire another decent bat, I'll be disappointed. But I do predict that the Dolan-haters will complain about anyone aside from Albert Pujols. ;)

CF-Sizemore
2B-Cabrera
SS-Ramirez
RF-Choo
C-Santana
DH-Hafner
LF-Kipnis
3B-Hannahan
1B-Brantley

OK, back to reality:)

If the Indians do not acquire at least 1 more major league hitter, then I don't care what they do the rest of the offseason, they will not win the division

Makes no sense to go all in on this two year window and then not sign a bat.

What's "all-in?"

I didn't really expect them to sign much of an impact bat, and the top of my list was guys like Cuddyer and Willingham.

I still think Willingham could be an option, but people hear all these rumors about Hanley Ramirez or Albert Pujols like it's just that easy to go "all-in" and grab one of those guys are spewing more BS than any front office ever could.

Trading your top pitching prospects for a big name. Leaving your farm system with a bunch of AAAA players.

2012 is the year everyone was looking for the Indians to contend, if they think they can go into next season with Laporta, Santana, and Brantley platooning at 1st base then its another 2nd place finish.
