A closer look at Harrison Barnes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Please, The Clippers AND Cavs knew that they weren't getting/giving up a real lottery pick. The only way the Clippers could get screwed is if their pick comes in number 1 or 2. It was a chance they were willing to take. The Cavs just wanted a first rounder for Mo and paid for it.

If we end up with both Williams and Irving, then that would just suck for the Clips, but for us, it would be dreamy.

I think a more likely scenario would involve us either trading the 8th pick in a deal to get Irving or Williams should we get screwed over in the lottery, or using the 8th pick and some type of other asset to move from 8 to 6 if, for example, we really like Enes Kanter and think he goes in that 6-8 range but don't want to miss out on him. Not sure if there's much of a market for people to move into the 8th spot.

Completely agree. I think it's interesting that everyone is down on this draft because of the lack of American prospects, while the Euro prospects seem pretty intriguing to me this year. There are stud prospects (Jonas, Kanter) plus some guys who have a decent chance as well (Motiejunas, Biyombo, Vesely, Mirotic). The Euro's have hit a little bit of lull after teh Dirk/Pau/Ginobili heyday but these things are cyclical and things will change eventually.

Depending on how the Cavs feel about these guys, I could easily see them moving up a few spots with the Clippers pick in particular to grab a target. I'm not as optimistic about combining both picks unless they are both in the top 5 to get Williams or Irving. Teams don't generally trade those picks

As of tonight, If it goes chalk 1.davis 2. mkg 3. Beal 4. I would put money on Barnes over Dummond

If the Cavs are unable to land MKG, I really wouldn't mind Harrison Barnes.

Barnes was a little bit overhyped coming out of HS, sure, but he still played very well for UNC and was a catalyst in their offense the two years he was there. During the NCAA tourney, he did not perform well because he lost his distributor PG-- who was able to spread the floor and feed him the ball at the proper spots. I tend to think that playing alongside just as good a distributor and an even better scorer than Kendall Marshall (Kyrie).. Barnes would thrive.

When it comes down to it, what do the Cavs really lack? -- Athleticism and Scoring from the wing position.
Barnes would provide that, easily.

His first step is just too slow. He will be a good crafty scorer and shooter from the perimeter for a SF.. but without that explosiveness you need at SF in the NBA, he wont get easy buckets. He will end up shooting a low fg%. His footspeed defending is better but hes not super tough on that side of the ball.

If he could do something else really well, maybe be a tough defender, a good passer when he gets in trouble.. I would really like him.

So is his ceiling Sean Elliot 2.0?......
if so is that worth the 4th pick in a deep draft like this one?

Barnes strikes me as the type of guy you plug in at the 3 position and he does a "nice" job for you for 8-10 years without ever being anything spectacular or a focal point of the offense. He won't hurt you on either end of the floor, gives good effort, has solid-average size for the position and will force opponents to cover him. He's sort of like vanilla pudding or the wooden roller coaster - nice enough, but not thrilling or exciting really. You could probably mark him down for 14-16 ppg, 5-7 rpg, 2 apg, 1 spg, 2-3 to's pg.

I won't be horrified if they draft him, but I could see other ways I'd rather go even if MKG and Beal are off the board at 4.

Am I the only one who thinks he'll be a 20ppg+ scorer in his prime? I mean, he put up 16 and 17 ppg in 29 mpg on an elite college team as a freshman/sophomore.

Maxing out at 20/5 with a couple of assists while shooting a good percentage from behind the arc and being a plus defender? Yeah, I will take that with the 4th pick in a draft lacking superstar potential.

At this stage of the game, Harrison Barnes is a sensible pick at #4 assuming Beal and MKG are gone. I don't think the Cavs can afford to gamble on Andre Drummond that high in the draft. Thomas Robinson does and doesn't do a lot of the same things as Tristan Thompson. Barnes would provide sorely needed offense and is a perfect complementary weapon to Kyrie Irving. I think he has some nice post game that wasn't tapped into at North Carolina but, all-around, he's a high floor, middle ceiling guy.

Bradley Beal, to me, is the best fit for this team. His skill set blends in nicely between Irving and Gee. I wonder, if Charlotte reaches an impasse in a Robinson-MKG selection, if they would be more amenable to a trade with the Cavs given some sort of wink-nod-rubdown agreement that Beal would be our pick at 2.

Agreed. He will be a Elliot level player or a slightly better version of Battier. Not a bad player by any means, but I would rather swing fro the fences with Drummond if Beal and MKG are gone. ( i really, really want MKG though)

The ability to drive is allot more important from your sf than the ability to shoot. You need your sf to put pressure on the interior of the defense. I think Barnes only is a 20 point scorer on a bad team, ie someone will need to score.

What if you put Barnes next a SG that can create, but may not be the best shooter. For example, a 1-2-3 of Irving-Stuckey-Barnes seems very complimentary. When looking at the draft, someone like Wroten could be available at #33 or #34, and he seems like he could fit that position well.
