Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

The US Census considers the Houston area to contain an area called "Baytown". They consider the Cleveland area to be Elyria to Mentor, which seems pretty on target. So I took the Census at its word.

I've never been to Houston, so what actually constitutes the Houston area is unknown to me.

Allow me. Houston, which has no zoning laws, annexes a lot areas outside downtown. Harris county, the county I live in and the county Houston is in, is absolutely massive. I live up by Lake Houston, which is a good 30-40 minutes away from downtown, yet I am still considered to be living in Houston. To give you an idea, I grew up in Twinsburg (located in Summit county) which is about the same distance to Cleveland as I currently am from Houston (~25 miles). Also, one thing I've noticed about Houston when it comes to fans is that they are a lot like the Florida teams in terms of the amount of people who live here who have moved to the area from a different state (like me) and are fans of different teams. For instance, I see quite a bit of Browns, Steelers, and Packers fans (to go along with the massive Cowboys bandwagon) down here for football and I think in my 3 years down here I have seen more Spurs/Mavericks fans than I have Rockets fans. Houston is indeed a large city and ever since I have moved here I have wondered why none of the teams can really rake in FAs in sports. The weather is warm year round, have a strong housing market, economy is good, food is great, no income taxes, downtown, especially the Galleria, is nice to walk through, and there are beaches (not good ones) 30 minutes away. Also, in terms of the Houston TV market, they have to compete with FS Southwest, which comes standard on all cable packages I have had down here, which airs Mavericks and Spurs games.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Rockets still have a Chinese Audience because of Yao. This allows them to be one of the biggest teams in popularity in China. It is a bit weird because Lin is American, but it just helps them keep their huge Chinese fanbase.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

He is still taxed on all his income, he just doesn't have to pay any state income tax because Florida doesn't have one. Also, his property taxes are low in Florida.

He still has to pay state tax when he plays in a city that has a state tax.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

As they say loose lips sink ships. I must admit I am partial to the lack of leaks from the Cavs camp and the lack of ESPN follow-up to the initial Dwight craze this summer. They must be chomping at the bit to discredit Cleveland as a landing spot for Bynum in the trade, but I imagine the Cavs front office is on lockdown. The dearth of news is a good thing in my opinion. The media didn't know about these preliminary 3 way talks with the Lakers for months, and they don't know what is going on now. I have an inkling something could be going down soon!

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

I have a hard time remembering our past few trades (Mo/Davis, JJ/Casspi, Sessions/Walton, etc.) Where these trades generally not very talked about in the media UNTIL they happened? If my memory serves me right, the Cavaliers do NOT leak trades and we only find out after they happen. I'm expecting to be really surprised one morning this summer when I log on and see a thread titled, "Cavs acqiure __________ in a trade with ___________." and another thread saying, "_________ Appreciation Thread."

I'm pretty sure we heard some rumblings of trade talks with LAC and LAL, but nothing too crazy. Nothing like what's happening with the Dwight saga or the Melo trade. It seems whenever it's a superstar being traded, the media blows it up and makes it a big ordeal.

Makes sense as the landscape of the power teams in the NBA changes dramatically when a top 5 player changes teams. We did hear a bit about the Sessions trade this season because it was the Lakers but nobody really cares about small trades when it doesn't affect much at the top of the league.

Sam The Bullshit Whisperer
Source familiar with Lakers-Cavs-Magic talks says potential trade not dead, but in holding pattern. Teams seem to be weighing options, with Magic, in particular, seeing what else might be out there.

Just saw this when I posted it my bad.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

That's super funny that The Bullshit Whisperer tweeted that. I was just about to type a post that it's pretty telling that nobody has reported the talks dead. It's just silence. When it falls apart, people tend to jump on those kind of reports.

Sure sounds like they are still plugging away.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Ron Artest was guess hosting on ESPN 710am the other day, he had plenty of very good things to say about Bynum. He was adamant in saying he believes Bynum is the best center in the league.
He also said, "Andrew Bynum, he's practicing on things that's gonna make him better. You see him make jumpshots, he shot a 3 and we all expected it to go in and people got upset but we see him shoot and make 3's 5 to 10 in a row in practice."

Unless Bynum's knees are as shot like Arvydas Sabonis' knees, and he'll develop the same court vision and passing skills, there's no way this guy should be getting out of the paint to shoot 3's. That's not going to make him better. He needs to camp his ass down the block.

This silence makes it good.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

You accumulate assets (expirings, cap space, picks) in order to spend them. But to spend, you need a buyer. Im encouraged that Grant seems willng to part with all the accummulated assets for one stud player to match with KI, as opposed to just making lateral moves. At least we confirm that Grant's intention is not to accumulate assets ad infinitum....it is to strike/spend when the opportunity to acquire a Star presents itself. If the present manuvering for AB does not work out, better upgrade the servicers come the mid-season trade deadline.
