C.J. Miles signs with Cavs ($2M/year, 2nd year is team option)

Re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

seen this on the jazz realgm board

Pros:
Sure likes to shoot.
Great at shooting
Always find a shot he likes
Can shoot from anywhere on the floor

Cons:
Misses everything he shoots
Lacks the ability to MAKE the shots he takes
Never found a shot he didn't like
Can't MAKE a shot from anywhere on the floor.

CJ Miles is a lot like Kobe actually, in that CJ is also a Jazz killer.

Sorry to say this, but if the Lakers do sign CJ you are gonna hate the kid. (Also, I bumped into him at the Sandbar club in SLC and CJ was a Class A douchebag. So, he doesn't even have the "nice kid" thing going for him.)

Looks like a left-handed Gee to me. Hopefully this turns out better than Darius :chuckles:

Re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

Boobie and Walton are both expirings, so I expect one if not both to get dealt before the deadline. We were desperately thin on the wing anyway. If the Cavs re-sign Gee, that leaves Waiters, Gee, Miles, Boobie, Casspi, Azubuike, Gody, and Walton between SF and SG. Out of that group, the only guys I even want to see play some decent minutes are Gee, Waiters, Miles, and Boobie. Still some big questions about Azubuike's health. I just can't see the Cavs cutting Casspi or Walton at this point since both are expirings.

Remember, we also acquired Pargo, so Boobie, Casspi, Gody, Azubuike, and Walton are all expendable and losing any of those guys wouldn't really affect the team. Really like the Miles pick up though.

I'm willing to bet that last year was an off year for him for many reasons, but as a starting swingman for the Cavs he gets a boost in those field goal and three point shooting numbers.

~A strike-shortened season has caused more than one player to start off looking rusty. Samardo Samuels was overweight, Chauncey Billups looked rusty then got hurt, Baron never rehabbed last summer, etc. It's up to Miles to be sure that he regains what he lost.

~As I've mentioned before, watch how Devin Harris and Earl Watson play the point position. They are combo guards without a good history for setting up teammates and have bounced around the league because of it. Now look at Deron Williams and how he approaches the point position. That has certainly diminished the shooting of CJ since Williams and Sloan left.

~Miles fell immediately out of favor with Tyrone Corbin after having a good player/coach relationship with the hard-nosed Jerry Sloan. With Scott and Miles off to a good start, that should help rebuild CJ's confidence.

Since he shot .381 fg% last year, it's hard to imagine him declining further. Shooting .400 will be considered a boost, I guess. Hard to bet against that.

If we can re-sign Gee now, we could actually... not be half-bad this season.

Azubuike, Walton, and (arguably) Pargo and Casspi are guys who are only here as included moving parts in deals for other assets. They are the guys who wake up every morning thanking God for the way the NBA CBA, salary, and trade systems work. They currently have relatively little to no basketball value other than in accordance with the details of their salaries.

Harangody... well... I guess he just either has in his possession Chris Grant's self-taken, mistakenly sent, bathroom mirror cell phone pics that he's holding for ransom and/or he accidentally walked into the wrong room just as Gilbert and Stern were shaking hands on the Kyrie fix (and you know that bumbling fool would be the one to awkwardly bust in the room, smile washing away from his clay-made face as he realizes his error, then say, "oops, sorry coach..." as he slowly backs back out of the room) and is being paid for his silence. The fact that he was offered official US tender to continue playing basketball for this team simply cannot be explained otherwise.

Then there's Miles, Boobie, and Gee, if re-signed. These are guys that actually have some actual basketball value (for Boobie, only for the 20 games he's healthy) and that we want on the team at a reasonable price. They're all replaceable/expendable, and none of them would likely be the difference between having a good team or a bad team, but they're all part of that enormous pool of medium-level players that teams just need to draw from in order to fill out rosters and, in some cases, sift for hidden or formerly poorly utilized talent (And I would have included Casspi in this group if last season hadn't made me hate his game so much).

So actually I'm in complete agreement with you and just blowing a lot of hot air here, but I guess I'm just reiterating that we have a relatively high number of wings currently on this team that have no legitimate basketball value. Miles and Gee, while not studs, can and should coexist on this team just to sort of even out the balance of usefulness vs. utter shit on the wings and hopefully, like you alluded to, keep that shit off the floor altogether.

Like the Miles signing. Type of low key move the Cavs should be making. Miles is still just 25 and the change of scenery and playing in an uptempo system should help him here. I think he'll be better this season. Like Keys mentioned, not only was there a change in PG in Utah but there was also the coaching change and system change. Seemed to obviously affect Miles.

Don't think it effects Gee at all. Cavs have holes on the wing and still need more quality depth there. Room for both Miles and Gee.

Just want to give credit to Ben and RCF who broke the Miles signing on Twitter before every local Cavs beat reporter. PD & ABJ didn't have it until 2 hours later.

Ex-Utah Jazz's C.J. Miles will sign with Cleveland Cavaliers, source says | Utah Jazz Notes | The Salt Lake Tribune

Unrestricted free agent small forward C.J. Miles has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a league source told The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday.

Miles is expected to sign a two-year deal with Cleveland and compete for a starting spot during the 2012-13 season.

Miles, 25, drew interest from several teams during free agency, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas, Milwaukee and Houston. His growing bond with Cavaliers coach Byron Scott and the opportunity Cleveland presented him heavily factored into his decision.

"He's so happy," the source said.

The 6-foot-6, 222-pound Miles averaged 8.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists for Utah from 2005-12, playing in 389 games (159 starts). His best season was 2010-11, when he set career highs in average points (12.8), rebounds (3.3) and minutes (25.2).

Miles is expected to team with 2011-12 NBA rookie of the year Kyrie Irving in Cleveland's backcourt, while playing alongside young athletes such as Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller.

Cleveland topped Miles' list of preferred destinations when free agency started July 1. The seven-year veteran will now join a rebuilding Cavaliers club he "always wanted to sign with," the source said.

I'm good with it.

It's even better that he's saying he always wanted to be here.

Where do we go with Gee? I wonder what he's looking for.

Re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

Very happy with the CJ Miles signing. Like Douglar stated he's the kind of talent/risk the Cavs should be trying out.

In any case, in helps improve our talent base by adding another athlete and (somewhat) shooter. I hope this inspires him to a level he was never quite able to obtain in Utah. Playing with Kryie won't hurt.

Hello.

I've seen more CJ Miles than any human should be allowed to & have come to answer all your questions. Feel free to shoot away and please address them to ReformedPrionRapist so I can recognize them easier.

You're welcome.
