Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's old Jimmy Butler. The most overrated player in the league.

And someone hasn't watched Tobias Harris play since last year, have they?

I've watched most of the Orlando games since Tobias returned from his high ankle sprain and he looks pretty good. Furthermore, ever since Vucevic went down and he started playing his natural position at the 4 he's looked much better. I'd rather have Tobias on this team over TT, but hindsight is 20/20.

Great so now you proved you can read box scores. How about you start watching the games and maybe you'll get a sense of is impact he has on the floor. He's one of the best wing defenders in the league. Tristan Thompson is an ok man to man defender and he doesn't block any shots because he plays below the rim. Jimmy Butler can hold his own against the best wings in the game. Can Tristan guard some of the top PF's in the league in a seven games series. He damn sure can't guard the best centers.

He has such an impact that his team decided to pack it in and tank by trading Deng away, apparently. And, at the end of the day, a great defender who can't shoot is still hurt by that inability to shoot. Every team needs guys who can stretch the floor effectively, and if you're a wing who can't do that, you have less relevance in the modern NBA than a lesser defender who can knock down threes.

Let me know when Tristan Thompson is playing alongside three future Hall-of-Famers, including the best power forward of all-time.

Oh my bad I forgot how awesome Ginobili was in the finals last year. Are you really taking credit away from Kawhi's performance because he was on the Spurs?

I guess Dwight Howard should give back all his defensive player of the year awards since the other defenders on his Magic teams were shitty.

Los you want people to watch the games but you're bringing up games from 7 months ago...

First off, comparing those two things make no sense.

Second, I'm not taking credit away from his performance. He played well, no doubt. But let's be real here...it's easier to be a role-player on a great team than it is to be a role-player on a bad one. Kawhi stepped into the perfect situation for him. He rebounds, gets a ton of open threes, and focuses on doing the little things because he doesn't have to do the big ones. He has Hall-of-Fame caliber teammates for the big things.

He'd probably go right outside the top 5, I stand corrected.

The list Los gave was pathetic though. I don't even think David Kahn would trade TT straight up for Isiah Thomas or Reggie Jackson.

Did you read my post I said if I were a GM I wouldn't trade any of those players for Tristan Thompson

And your're still trying to sell me on Tristan's upside halfway through his third season

Jonas
Kemba
Klay
Kwahi
Vucevic
Tobias Harris
Faried
Reggie Jackson
Jimmy Butler
Parsons
Isaiah Thomas

No GM is going to trade any one of these players straight up in a player for player swap for Tristan Thompson. If I had one of those players I wouldn't be willing to trade them for Tristan Thompson either.

Reread your own post moron. You said you wouldn't trade TT straight up for anyone on that list, which is completely laughable.

Where did I say I wouldn't trade Tristan for one of those players?

Some of these examples are a little off, but it goes to show that bigs development is quite important. You can get the stats, but having the ability to execute them efficiently matters too. Let me know if any of them ring a bell:

1. Karl Malone (took 3 years to improve to his regular superstar status; 3 years of improvement on free throws)
2. Rudy LaRusso (needed 3 years to develop field goal accuracy; 3 years to become a semi-threat from the floor)
3. A.C. Green (needed 3 years to develop his identity as a defensive threat and a capable scorer and rebounder)
4. Tyrone Hill (4 years to become a regular contributor as a 10-8 player; all-star his 5th year)
5. Wayne Embry (3 years needed for all-star berth; 4th year as a legitimate threat)

I gotta say, some fit T.T.'s mold, but others don't, except in development time. 24 years of age is a good number, but I can afford one more year since one was locked out. If you're Los216, feel free to completely ignore this post and keep complaining about what we have as of January 15th, 2014. If we're lucky, you'll only complain about 50 more Thompson things...

What's with the trend of people with 30 or less posts insulting people and dropping "idiot / moron" constantly if they don't agree with their opinion.

This is the second time I've seen this in the last few days. Is there an RFC banner up on the cavs.com forums or something?

I hope we are actively filtering these people out.

What's worse is he misread my post

The last sentence says you wouldn't trade one of the listed players for TT in a swap. How am I misreading that? You literally just said if you were a GM you'd value Reggie Jackson over Tristan Thompson.

I'd apologize for calling you a moron but your opinions are, well, moronic. Does anyone else honestly believe Zeller should be starting over Tristan?

Dude with Westbrook out Reggie Jackson has been the second best player on the Thunder at times. He's one of the best backup PG's in the league. There is now way that Sam Presti would trade Reggie Jackson for Tristan.

Presti does that trade in a heartbeat, as would any GM. Reggie Jackson could be the best backup PG in the league and not be worth TT.

Once again, he's only 22, he's already giving you 12-10 a night, and he's a solid 1-on-1 defender. He's already got 2 elite skills in rebounding and defending the pick and roll. Yet this guy's not worth Reggie Jackson?

If zeller were to be starting it wouldnt be Thompson going to the bench.
