Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

Come on Windhorst...I really hope that article was an order from editorial.
Ah, yes, I remember him.

Brian "When LeBron leaves the Rats will jump ship" Windhorst.

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

I hope not trading him was the right call during this last deadline. If we are put into a position where we end up having to trade him does this effect what we get in return for him due to our desperation or would it be something similar to something we might have received during this last deadline?

Also worth noting in the article Windhorst has obviously heard from Irving's camp and he wants out.

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

well he's gone then, why would you take the full length max (without any player options) if you were him? look at the team as it's currently constructed...

Fine, then he can either enter restricted free agency, where we can match the offer and end up with a more team friendly deal than giving him a super max with an opt out clause, or he can decline and actually play an extra year at his rookie salary instead of the max. Lose about 10 million dollars in one season. No one has ever done that, but if he wants to be the first he can go right ahead.

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

The transparency of ESPN is hilarious. They release this story, put it on the front page and then have an accompanying piece written by some schmuck behind a paywall elaborating on whether or not Kyrie should stay.

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

Good lord. That just blows to see that front and center. What a buzzkill.

i think he has more leverage than that. there's no way we would keep him here if he wanted out and asked management for a trade

on a side note i also think it's a little shortsighted to discuss Kyrie's options right now. this team hasn't even gone into win now mode yet. sure the Deng and Hawes trades were short term moves but both have expiring contracts and we haven't given up much to get them. to truly get an idea how this team will look moving forward we will have to wait till Lebron turns us down because let's be honest, as long as that option exists they hold back on certain moves...

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

Please rename thread to:

Look at all these jackasses that want to keep Kyrie. :chuckles:

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

What prompts Windhorst and BSPN to publish this article randomly? Anyone know? Complete bullshit.

He probably just woke up and decided, "welp time to shit on Cleveland again."

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

ESPN wants him to leave so bad lol

Bspn probably had that article in the stash since the firing of Chris Grant but then we won 6 straight so they fell back. Must have figured now is the perfect time to post it since we finally lost a few

heh, when i first went to espn i just saw his picture but the headline was off-screen. given his fragility, thought it might've been a major injury or something...

how is it shortsighted? he's up for extension this off-season, only a few months away. and gilbert's proclamation to "trade anyone who won't commit long-term" just adds tons of fuel to the fire because there are plenty of reasons why irving would not want to commit long-term. this recent losing skid plus the poor season overall are just making the questions about what he will/should/can do louder and louder.

the team is not "locked in" yet, but they're definitely getting close to setting their core whether they are ready or not. like you said, this off-season is gonna be a big indication about the future of the team. so yes, the article is maybe a few months early....but again the way this season has played out has just made it an even bigger and more relevant concern.

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

Three things worth commenting on in this Windhorst article:

1. Windy confirms --he's at least the third source on this -- that no matter what Kyrie says publicly, his people are saying privately that he wants out. That's not good.

2. Kyrie might either sign a non-max extension, giving him out-clauses or go the opposite direction and try to finagle a "super-max" contract. Again, neither are good for the Cavs.

3. Some in the Cavs organization question whether he's worth a max contract. Just pointing this out for those rabid fans who think Kyrie is a no-doubt superstar, there's considerable room for debate on this issue...and not's just supposedly uninformed fans wondering. An interesting thing to leak out.

Re: Kyrie Irving: 2014 All Star Game MVP

If Kyrie wants the super max, I would probably give it to him and try to get a coach in here that will make sure he is eventually worth it. If he wants the 3 year deal with options I would tell him to go fuck himself and trade him.

The article is realistic in all aspects. Not sure why some feel they are being slighted.

The bad news is we might have to trade Kyrie. The good news is he's not that good and I believe we do ourselves a favor and save that max money for someone else.

my point is the 2014/15 Cavs could have like 6-7 new players and predicting Kyrie's future now is tough without knowing who those players are gonna be. let's say once Lebron turns us down we use our assets and make 2 big trades then all of this stuff that's written now will become irrelevant...our core would look totally different and Kyrie might like that team moving forward (compared to what we have now).

firing Mike Brown and hiring a better coach might also appease him...
