Gordon Hayward Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I understand why the strong Dion supports don't want Hayward since it means the end of Dion.

So on that level, I'm sympathetic.

But let's not act like Hayward is an abomination to the game of basketball.

I don't get this. Above all else we're all Cavaliers fans and simply want what's best for the team. Not everyone is going to be on the same page when it comes to which moves are best for the team long-term.

If some think Dion @5 million is a better value deal than Gordon @15+ I can understand that. I'd actually agree with that. Seems logical to me. Couple that with the fact that maybe those same people view Wiggins long-term as a SF and it makes even more sense why they'd object to throwing a near max offer sheet at another SF. Another SF whom many question his being labeled elite at that...

With that being said I understand the decision to pursue Gordon Hayward. Not saying it's the best decision imo but I can see why Griffin and co. would feel this is a good move.

Where do you project Hayward's ceiling to be in 4 years? Box score wise per 36 assuming he's the second option?

equal to, if not better than Waiters

and being a combo 2/3 like Wiggins will be helps the team more than Dion's combo PG/SG IMO

These sorts of things are so hard to predict without knowing what the roster will look like.

I will say that I don't view him as the second option type player. More like the 3rd.

I'd hope in 4 years, Wiggins would be the second option on this team or even better, some sort of big man.

I just really like Hayward's skill set for this team and for Blatt's offense.

I'm not a Dion hater. I'm more of a big Hayward fan.

At $15M with raises?

Not what I asked.

Totally avoided the question....

Honestly, do you think this guy is a 20+ppg scorer?

I'm a huge Dion fan but I'm all for signing GH. He would just be a great fit with Kyrie, Wiggins and Dion if we keep him which makes our entire team better. I don't see any big men worth mega $ in FA. We can afford a max level salary at the wing considering all of our other guys are on rookie deals and Kyries' extension kicks in next year. At this point we just need to find a Robin Lopez type C to hold down the fort and we're good to go.

Also this could be some LeBron posturing on the part of the Cavs.. Even if Rich Paul doesn't answer our call this let's him know we are moving on and serious about improving our roster.

Minor point, but I don't see the fact that Wiggins and Hayward are both probably SFs as a problem since both (Wiggins especially) should be able to defend both wing positions and they have completely different games on offense.

The box score guesstimate is good because it makes an argument more real.. Doesn't have to be accurate, but it gives another person the ability to see what you see.

Or it's an overlap that we don't need to spend $15M/yr on.

With equal minutes his numbers weren't equal to Waiters this year. In his 4th year in the league and Waiters' 2nd.

Where's the overlap? With Hayward and Wiggins manning the wings, I think they effectively cover everything we need from those spots.

What was Utah's reasoning for not offering him an extension last offseason?

1) They offered him 4 yrs/48M;

2) He's an RFA this season, so if he proved himself worthy of more than that, they could retain him anyway.

There really wasn't a point in them offering more than 4/48 last year.

Someone better get over to the CCC to follow his vehicle away. Does he head back to a hotel? Hopkins? Juicy Lucy's?

Like Hayward but would prefer a more athletic Parsons.. Hayward has shot it better despite last yr... here is a interview with Hayward on his least fav city... sorry if posted

Least favorite, I would say, like, especially since I’ve been in the league, probably Cleveland. Cleveland to me is like Gotham City. It’s, like, so dreary, and just, I don’t know, and then ever since LeBron [James] left, I mean, the fans, they’re starting to pick up a little bit more, but I remember my rookie year, there was hardly anybody there.

So, that makes for a tough atmosphere when you have to go on the road, and you know, there’s absolutely no energy given to you, and there’s not even any energy in the building given to them, hardly either, so that’s a tough place to play.

Public service announcement: Don't make apologies like "sorry if posted," read the thread. It's better for everyone involved.

If you just look at it simply, Hayward isn't worth the max deal. BUT.... if it is true that this is our last chance to spend cap money, then he is pretty much the best available option for us if we aren't getting a star free agent. Unfortunately, it will take the max contract to be able to possibly get him away from Utah. If we don't end up with a star or Hayward, we likely end up signing average role players or nobody worthwhile and then we don't have the cap space to sign anyone next year anyways.

With that said (if it is true that we won't have any cap room next year)... I am all for Hayward, mainly because there isn't really another realistic option out there that is better than him.
