New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
any of you guys watch anime? I've been obsessed with DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho since they were on Adult Swim like 10 years ago, but i havent gotten in to many other animes. I started watching Bleach, which was cool but i saw there is a shit ton of filler for it, and i dont wanna waste time watching 700+ episodes with a lot being filter. I've seen Flame of Recca which i really liked, it was like a low budget YYH.

Any recomendations for a guy who like DBZ, YYH, FoR..that kinda fighting, high pace anime? I'm thinking of starting Deathnote since it is so highly regarded.

Huge DBZ fan over here! I'm actually re-watching the whole thing for the 4th time at the moment. Just started the Cell saga again (deffs my fav saga of the show) but outside of that, don't know much else about Anime. Have you seen all the live action DBZ trailers on YouTube?

Love what NBC is putting on now. Loved Believe and Crisis and was disappointed to see them go, especially Believe. IMO that was one of my favorite series ever, even if for only one season. Two other good series to watch are Night Shift and Taxi Brooklyn, both on NBC.

I thought Crisis was maybe one of the dumbest shows I'd ever seen, I mean, of course I watched it but I also hate myself.

Like I watched the shit out of the similarly bad Hostages, every episode.

I do think that black dude on Crisis could easily be an action superstar if he got the right roles though. I think it's Lance Gross maybe. Seems like if Will Smith and Martin Lawrence had a love child, it would be him.

yeah the live trailer stuff is fantastic, most of the actors follow me on twitter cuz i jumped on it when it first started getting going lol. have you seen DBZ Kai? it is 100 times better than the original, just make sure to see that dvd/bluray version and not the made for TV one

Haha that is awesome!

Now explain to me Kai.. I originally thought it was simply a condensed version of Z? But it seems like it might be something more? I saw the Blu ray versions on sale at the store today (awesome cover by the way) but need some convincing before I buy it!

What's the main difference between the two?

its about 200 episodes shorter, no more powering up for entire episodes, no more "planet namek will explode in 5 mins" taking up 15 episodes, no more garlic jr saga, etc

  • added blood, redone colors (huge, huge difference in quality),
  • 95% same voice actors but dialogue was all redone to match the japanese closer (they curse [Goku calling people bastards is great])
  • Gohan, Bulma, and Frieza are the major actor changes. Gohan's voice actually reflects his emotions as a character more, Frieza actually sounds like a male and you can just tell he is pure evil..i love his new voice. Bulma's is w/e, its pretty similar to the original
  • the moves have japanese names (no more special beam canon, i think its makakempso or something sweet),
  • the actors are infinitely more talented this time around..vegeta and piccolo actually sound different now lol
  • some scenes are brand new and animated by Toriyama, like some scenes that were lost since the 80's/90's
  • japanese music instead of the stupid americanized techno-metal, it fits the tone sooo much better

basically if you're like me and have seen the originals a hundred times, these difference pop out big time and its like a totally different series. And they are working on the Buu saga in Japan right now, cutting the stupid filler out of that will make it 100 times better.

The Leftovers is incredible. Agonizing but incredible.

Wow! That sounds awesome. Definitely a lot of changes that sound appealing. So it's worth buying Kai even if I've seen Z plenty of times? Is it still as enjoyable in a condensed form? I'm a bit weary about a different voice for Frieza.. I LOVE his voice in the original runs.

Oh so they don't have an option for American music? I actually liked the American audio edits lol I usually select them over Japanese when watching. I guess it provides more of a nostalgic value for me! I may have to rewatch some episodes with Japanese audio instead though.

So they're currently up to doing Buu? We get the DBZ Battle of Gods movie in English soon as well don't we?

The Strain - Average?

The story I like, but the pacing and the direction seems sooooooo subpar- It is not scary, the scenes are scattered and the emotional scenes lack the natural flair. Maybe I am comparing it to The Walking Dead which is more about Drama and Horror. There is a world of difference in the direction between both those series. Hope The Strain improves though cos the story seems cool.

its more worth it if you have seen it a million times cuz you appreciate the changes IMO. Try streaming it from a site before you buy it though, but i dont see how anyone wouldnt like it more than the original.. it isnt George Lucas ruining Star Wars, its Toriyama making it fit the manga but with a higher budget IMO.

yeah Buu saga is releasing right now in Japan, should be in the US soon id imagine.

hell yeah, battle of the gods is gonna be in US theaters for a week in august! AND another movie got announced for 2015 and supposedly Toriyama is looking to put 200% effort into it

i like DBZ too much...

Yeah I felt similar about the pilot, which is weird since I'm pretty sure Guillermo Del Toro directed it himself. He's made some fantastic movies (including Pan's Labyrinth, which is an awesome horror/fantasy movie), and he wrote the story behind the fucking books the show is based on. I couldn't help but be disappointed that it wasn't better.

I'm going to stick with it, though, if only because I want to see how the show handles some of the stuff that happens later. FX won't skimp on the budget like AMC does with The Walking Dead, which is encouraging for those of us who have read the novels.

Awesome! I might download first :)king:) before buying just to be sure it's going to be worth it - it's a bit of an investment!

I just got the email RE: a movie in 2015? The Dao of Dragon Ball or something? Or maybe that's where I got the email from. Either way, it's pretty exciting that he's jumping on full-throttle after all these years. Seems like he's just realized now how influential this has been culturally for at least a generation! Hope they show Battle of the Gods in Aus theatres though. Otherwise, I might just have to wait for the Blu Ray release.

Well The Bridge is definitely off to a good season 2 start. On a better track than Season 1.

Did anyone manage to catch 'Silicon Valley' on HBO? Thoughts? I was impressed with the concept, but thought the execution lacked a little.

I think it really built as it went along and nailed the final episode which makes me excited for next season. Good cast well written and can only get better

It seems identical to the book so far but the problem for me is the books really aren't that good. People complain about accuracy but what they forget that if something is identical to a book then they nothing is new and the have a tendency to get bored. It also falls into the trap of making sure you hit all the notes you are suppose to hit and things like pacing and flow take a back seat. Game of thrones looks at the story and says this, this and this work but change this and throw this shit out because it is dumb and won't translate.

As for emotions it was the first episode and is setting things up. The production values are good, the actors are competent and nothing really stuck out as bad. It held my attention the entire episode.
