All the apes were looking up and paying attention to their leader, it looked to be as if Koba did it so quickly no ape actually saw it or registered because of their fear of him. I think Koba was followed because of said fear, its unheard of to kill another ape, he did it right in front of them plus I think they were already jumpy with humans there that it was the easy thing to immediately place blame on them.

Don't you see the contradiction? Either they saw who did it, or they didn't.

it's not just the strongest ape they follow, if that was the case they would follow one of the gorillas but Caesar is the smartest.

Caesar expressly said "strongest", and it was verified repeatedly that dominance was established solely through physical combat alone. Nothing else, and that was true even though Caesar was wounded by a gun. The gorillas are the plot hole.

All that being said, it was still a decent popcorn movie, but far inferior to the first one in my view.

I thought Oldman was underused as well.

Fucking movie was awful. One of the worst I've seen in a very long time. And yes, I liked the first one too.

Visually, it was really stunning. But there were a whole lot of plot devices that I found completely implausible. [snipped spoiler stuff] Stuff just bugged me. It was just lazy writing as far as I was concerned.

I mentioned a few posts back that I had major problems with the script, too. Irritated the shit out of me because I thought it was mainly due to lazy script writing, things that very easily could have been fixed. Visually stunning, but that can only carry a movie so far.

Side note: First movie, when
Caesar screams "No", I wondered if it was a tip of the hat to Albert Camus' The Rebel, whose opening line was: "What is a rebel? A person who says no." It marked the point which began his rebellion.
Not sure that needed spoiler, but someone might not have seen it.

Edit add: Koba was also the nickname of Joseph Stalin.

I personally cannot understand the rating myself. It was "critically acclaimed science fiction" so I went to go see it. I was struggling not to fall asleep, felt like a children's movie it was so simple and boring.

That's disappointing. Well thanks for saving me the time and money :chuckles:

Okay.. So obviously, I don't want to highlight over the spoilers. But it now seems that the movie isn't as good as first assumed? Trying to decipher as much as I can without reading anything. Is it still worth catching at the cinemas?

I thought it was a good popcorn movie, but nothing really deep. If you've got nothing else to see, I'd see it. The effects were pretty good.

No it's not. Not for the price. You'd be better off downloading this or watching it at the $1.50 show wherever you are. If you have kids though, they would surely like it. But it's not anywhere near as good as the first one, and let's be honest, the first one wasn't a masterpiece.

Wow. That's an awful shame. I had high hopes for the sequel. I actually thought the first one was quite a decent piece of film. This sounds like a showy, Hollywood over-effects sequel by the sounds of it. Thanks for all the reviews guys, if we do end up seeing it, I'll let you know what I thought.

Just on another movie I thought was a huge let down: What did everyone think of Man Of Steel?

For me, the epitome of flashy Hollywood overkill. The story was as dry as anything. The effects, while they were "cool," were too over-the-top for me and way too overused. The whole film seemed like a product demo for a new special effects software. Other than Henry Cavill's performance (which I thought was impressive), the screen play was poorly written (too many holes and conveniences in the plot) and it just lacked fluency for me.

I've bumped into a ton of people who have "loved" it. Others felt similar to myself. I mean, how good is trying to save the planet but in the process, destroying the entire city and creating damage that would literally take decades to repair?

I'm more of a Batman kind of guy, but I'm definitely not looking forward to the sequel. When comparing superhero films, Man Of Steel couldn't even stand in the shadow of The Dark Knight IMO.

Final point in case anyone missed the Ben Affleck/Batman image release today:

If we are talking high school football movies, it goes Varsity Blues, Friday Night Lights, then Remember the Titans.

The football scenes in Titans were laughably bad. Worse than every other football movie I have ever seen, save The Program.

Just went on a recent string of movies

Purge - 6/10. Better than the first. It's like they realized that the 1st movie was too thin, so they made about 4 mini movies mashed together.

Apes - 6/10. Visuals were good. Fight scenes at the end were good. Acting was atrocious. 1st half of the movie was boring. Gary Oldman was underutilized. Basically, it was Godzilla all over again.

Transformers - 4//10. It actually was better than I thought. Stanley Tucci is great. Mark Wahlberg is better than Shia. Tom Lennon was in it as well, which was a great blast from the past.

Divergent - 3/10. Ugh. Hunger Games without all the good acting.

Those who saw Snowpiercer, where did you see it? No theater around here is showing it.

I watched Snowpiercer online months ago, before noobroom got shut down :( Movie is trash, though

Wow! Seriously? I saw it all over social media today on multiple accounts that said they released it at Comic Con over the week? Whoops - my bad!

If you want to see it, go see it. It isn't highly rated just randomly. A lot of people have thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
