Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Even Manziel should be able to read this playbook by now.

:chuckle:

Seriously, though, I can't really think of a benefit to starting him in game one if he hasn't clearly separated himself from Hoyer in practices, especially given this team's early schedule.

Dude, this fanbase doesn't learn. It's Groundhog Day every year since 1999. Call for the back-up, turn on the coach, then the GM. Once they're fired, then turn on the owner. I mean, we've already begun booing them at home and the team is still 0-0.

The fanbase has yet to be wrong about a single Quarterback, Coach or GM since they returned. None of them have gone on to even limited success elsewhere at the NFL level.

You refuse to acknowledge that the fans can recognize a shitty product quickly rather than waiting three seasons to call a loser a loser. You're looking at a 5-6 win team with bad Quarterback play this year. That usually puts a coaches head on the block. So we're probably well on our way to seeing all of this replicate. And it's not the fault of the fans.

The Browns are going into yet another season without getting the most important position on the field right. That's frustrating for fans and they should be allowed to express it.

Expect booing and expect failure both before and after the booing.

Best fanbase on Earth, Cleveland.

What he means here, I think, is that Cleveland is the best fanbase on Earth, if you consider Cleveland to be exclusively Earth.

Manziel should have a better handle on the playbook. He should have spent more time on it instead of flying to Vegas and snorting coke.

However, he's young and sometimes young players let the fame and status get to them. I will question those who say they haven't seen Manziel play well. He has sputters of greatness inbetween a lot of mediocrity and bad play. He doesn't do it everytime, but when he does stay in the pocket and step up and really throws off his front foot, his arm is really special, IMO. Maybe one of the best arms we've seen.

Sometimes breaking a QB's habits that helped him be really successful in the college is hard. Sometimes you never can break the habits. I trust this coaching staff to cut bait if they don't see it. I also trust Manziel will get the handle on it. He wasn't ready, and I will freely admit that he should be more prepared than he was. However, the talent is there. The learning is there. I do think he's getting better. He looked much more decisive the last game. I'm curious to see what he does in the next game.

He has elite talents. But really bad habits. If he is developed right, he still has a very bright future, IMO.

I am curious to ask Boobie/AZ/Whatever you want to be called: Has he at all impressed you this preseason? Has he changed your stance at all? Or are you still really down on him?

No, no, yes.

Same breakdowns in mechanics under pressure. Not fast enough or well equipped with elite arm strength to overcome it.

We've seen it a bunch through three games.

I'm hoping he gets the majority of three quarters on Thursday. Give Hoyer his two series with the ones, let Manziel finish the game.

I'm interested to see, after he does get a decent grip on the playbook, how he reads a defense. At A&M I thought he did it very well, yet in the pros so far he has looked below average at best.

I also hope he gets a lot of game time. I just wish he had a better offensive line in front of him.

I'm with b00bie here. I've been down on Manziel the whole time. I've seen nothing in preseason that even puts a shred of doubt in my head. He's only solidified the fact that he ran a dumbed down offense at A&M and anyone who thought he was the most 'pro ready' of the QBs was fooling themselves and believing the ridiculous hype.

He needs time to adjust to the NFL game and understand what he can and can't get away with. IMO, that is what's holding him back on the playbook. He still thinks he can make all these unscripted plays throwing off his back foot and running around like a maniac. Until he realizes he can't do half of that crap anymore only then will the light bulb come on and he will start to trust the playbook and truly study it.

"First and foremost, it's tough to see a friend like Braxton, I mean, it's rough," Manziel said, as Miller had season-ending shoulder surgery on Tuesday. "I don't wish that for anybody. I don't wish that for him especially. So hopefully everything in that situation works out for him. I hope he's able to get a medical redshirt and be able to play, because first and foremost, I'm a fan of Braxton. I think he's incredible for college football, I think he's incredible for Ohio State and I think the state of Ohio.

"Ohio State is obviously a very big deal but, I mean, a (redshirt) freshman coming in and taking over for a program like that, I think he's got a good situation with Coach Meyer being there and being able to put him in good situations to be successful. So I think more than anything he needs to depend on him, Coach Meyer, who's been through it all.

"Their quarterbacks coach (Herman) is a very creative guy who's a standup guy as well, so I would say lean on those guys, lean on the older players that have been there and they have a lot of playmakers, so you get the ball to those guys in space and they can really do a lot with it. So don't try and do too much.

"I'd say rely on your coaches, rely on what they're telling you and most of all, have fun and go out and play football like you did in high school and like you've been doing for your whole life."

No idea if that was planned or not, but if not, pretty well spoken.

Im watching the tape of the last preseason game.

Johnnies one run was a 7 yarder up the center after stepping into the pocket.

most plays stepping into the pocket would of been a sack. the line is that bad.

every scramble or roll out Manziel was looking down the field.

Cleveland's Its third down lets take a break defense really limited Johnnies oppurtunities.

go backa dn watch payton manning his first preseason. youll see alot of delay of games.
just because manziel hasnt gotten down the play calling yet doesnt means he is behind or slacked off.

reading a book and practicing calls to a mirror doesnt substutute actually calling the plays and seeing the defense..

Id rather see manziel start now ge all the reps he can Johnnys been just as effectice as hoyer despite all of hoyers advanatages the purpose of going with the vet is to win more games. Im just not seeing hoyer winning more games at this point.

You can watch the tape all you want, but if you refuse to be the least bit objective then it's not going to matter.

"Go back and watch Peyton Manning his first preseason."

Like you've committed the 1998 pre-season to memory, get out of here with this nonsense.

The great Blake Bortles cant even start over the messiah Chad Henne. I'm not worried about Manziel not starting right away. Seems to be a new trend to ease these young guys in on this shitty teams. I personally think there is no experience like hands on experience, but we will see how it goes because that obviously hasn't worked.

so for clarification your saying peyton manning did not have delay of game penalties related in his first preseason?

lets put an arbitrary number ratng on the playbook and calling plays in the huddles.

we give perfection 100 of course.

Hoyer would be an 83 and Manziel would be a 72

not a 20 like some of you are acting.
its alll a matter of scale.

does manziel have problems calling plays in the huddle because he is Manziel or is it something typical with rookie quarterbacks in general. .

I would say it was something typically experienced by most if not all rookie quarterbacks.
