Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What I don't understand about the play was the fact that it "should have" been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct because it was a deceptive play/trickery.

But then what is every fake punt/field goal?

Trickery with legal alignment, obviously.

In what universe is deception or trickery unsportsmanlike conduct in the NFL? Forgetting so-called "trick plays", great offenses and defenses are dependent upon deceiving the other team as to what you intend to do. That's why the defense shifts prior to snaps, why QB's call audibles, etc..
I don't know, in all honesty. Sounds more like an illegal formation.

Just reiterating what I heard from the senior officiating team on CBS.

illegal formation that is only illegal for 20 yards of the field.

apparently the Browns inquired about the play before they practiced it and was told it was legal.

i really dont think lining up manziel 5 yards out instead of 3 is gonna make the play less effective.

regardless the play would of stood at the time it happened.

this play really opens the door to having Manziel and Hoyer on the field at the same time.

ill be honest what pissed me off the most about this play was the fact that manziel took a really late hit that was just totally ignored by everyone. it was replayed 20 ish times, and no one ever brought it up. the defender pushed manziel out/johnny stepped out. then after that manziel was shoved to the ground. a clear late hit, and something very much missed. but dont worry some cunt on CBS thinks that the play should have been called back for "trickery"

edit at least according to an ESPN article it was illegal because the LOS was at the browns 38, but had it been from the 32 it would have been legal. This is a clear rule the NFL needs to do away with, its the defenses job to keep track of the offensive players.

Maybe if that play wasn't on tape for the whole world to see.
I dont think it matters what the world saw. Manziel ran a pretty good route was in flow with the pass and he can beat a corner. Manziel is a legitimate receiving threat when he lines up now. you give manziel three routes and a wide receiver option is there for a couple plays game. especially with the browns lack of a deep ball threat

because he manged to still make a catch after juggling the ball? on the one pass he has ever caught

You realize that the "deep ball threat" you're referring to runs a 4.68 right?

LOL, he ran straight and there wasn't a defender within 5 yards of him.

As far as Manziel as a deep threat, c'mon cut the crap. He ran a 4.68 which isn't even all that fast for a QB. If he were a WR his official time would have put him 41st out of 44 WR participants.

you guys are way to negative. kordell stewart ran a 4.3 but some argued it was actually a 4.5 . regardless the steelesr used Stewart while starting neil odonnell. San francisco has the wild kaep package,, back in the old old days you had van brocklyn and waterfield

Walsh was used during the regular season in packages.

im not talking about lining up manziel as the third receiver all game..

theres alot of ways to get Manziel out on the field
and kee hoyer as the starter

I'm not being negative here I'm being factual. What you said was absurd.

Can he be used in trick plays, sure. Trick plays can be effective from time to time but they haven't been effective yet with him. Also, to claim he has shown anything that says he could be a reliable WR option is silly.

But...why bother? The kid was drafted as a QB, and if he succeeds in the league, it'll be playing that position. There zero value in playing him at some other position just for the sake of getting him on the field.

And, there's a reason most second string QB's don't play on special teams despite the fact that it would get them on the field.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth if/when he gets injured while playing another position is something I really don't want to hear.
