Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
"He proved he can beat corners" might be a front-runner for line of the year.

.I actually never said he proved he could beat a corner i said he could. theres a major difference.

anyways props to shanahan for lining him up there it opens up the door for other things.

that dont involve just running routes.

you got end arounds, reverses, fake reverse. Dual quarterbacks.

these are the kind of plays you can bring johnny in for

There's a reason 99% of offensive formations feature a single QB; end arounds and reverses are generally more effective with a RB or WR than a backup QB. The only major threat introduced by the 2QB package is the double pass, a high risk/reward trick play best left for college.

I'd give props to Shanahan for crafting an above-average offensive attack around an inexperienced backfield with spare parts at WR, not a trick play that ultimately resulted in a loss.

No...there's absolutely no difference.

Absolutely.

Stroke of genius by Shanahan to hand it on a reverse to the slowest "receiver" on the team.

I don't understand why Manziel doesn't kick the field goals.

Got to find a way to get him on the field. He can boot it from 50+.

Kordell Stewart was a punter at one time.

Doug Flutie once dropkicked an extra point.

He might realistically be better than Cundiff. :chuckle:

The one thing I would like for Manizel to do is hold for the PAT & FGs. Lanning has F'd up a few times, but having Johnny on the field would atleast have the outside rusher pause (if only for a second) due to his ability to take off.

Uh...good idea. It used to be fairly common for the b/u QB to be the holder, then they were replaced in most cases by the punters because of fear of injury. But screw that -- I think this is a good idea.

That would be great, we could use him like the Buckeyes used Guiton.

Would you rather have Johnny with the kicker, long snapper and punter during practices? Or would you like him with the offense?

Don't see any reason that he couldn't do both. It's not like he's actively throwing the ball or running an offense for every moment of a practice, nor do snappers and holders do that continuously during a practice anyway. After all, the punter practices his punting, and then helps out practicing holding. Absolutely no reason Manziel couldn't find time to field a few dozen snaps during or after the regular practice.

As I said, for decades, the b/u QB commonly did that as one of his jobs. And the logic was similar -- it game you more options for the fake, better options if the play breaks down for some reason, and you had a guy who was used to handling snaps as part of his regular job anyway.

I think it's a pretty horrible decision to take away your 1st round QBs time with the offense so the field goal unit can be potentially more threatening. Johnny isn't here to split his time between special teams and the offense...
