Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Obviously these idiot coaches like Belichick will never make anything of their lives without Q-tip and b00bie giving advice on how to conduct practices...

Obvious Belichick would never risk the practice time of his backup quarterback on stupid little special teams stunts.

You are looking at the difference between a one time stunt and the norm... again, I'm using Belichick's own quotes here... BTW, I was all for the stunt when Belichick put Flutie out there for a drop kick. It's a skill that Pee Wee coaches don't teach anymore, Flutie was the last active player from that mid-1970s youth era who would have practiced the drop kick to some extent.

Super Bowl winning Bill Belichick thinks one way, Super Bowl winning Sean Payton thinks another way...

Hiding behind the "Oh well b00bie thinks he knows more than Belichick" argument isn't exactly the way to go here.

But I certainly don't know how the board majority can be ALL FOR using Manziel on a trick play like we saw Sunday, then complain that making him the holder would take away from his practice time at QB.

If he can do it successfully, no reason it shouldn't be an option.

Personally, I don't think he's got the skillset for it.

The argument of "This is how the majority of coaches at the top of their professions do it" isn't "hiding." People asked what ever happened to backup QBs holding for kicks, giving the Mike Pagels and Steve Grogans of the world a little bigger role. Maybe some RCFers high school coach was still using third string QBs as the holder five years ago and you don''t understand why it's different in the pros. I gave a great quote from Belichick on why that changed sometime in the 90's. You are welcome.

I don't think he should be out there wasting even 1/8th of his practice trying to hold kicks, but if he tries it and shows he can do it fairly well with little practice, why the fuck not? At least when we have short field goal "chips" (don't think there is such a thing with Cundiff) the other team won't stack a side (like Baltimore did) and try for a block. If he shows he can do it in practice, let it rip a few times.

"I just think that when you have that situation, if your punter can hold, then the amount of snaps and time that those guys get to practice together, work together, meet together, watch film together, watch slow-motions films, concentrate on the technique as opposed to the backup quarterback or somebody like that who has a lot of other responsibilities.

That is a great point, though. If it took anytime away from his field time (which it would), then it would be hard to let him do it. Keyword in my above post is few. Of course I would not want him holding if it is a 50yd try, or 4th & 8.

It’s just a time -– if your holder can be your punter, then the amount of practice time, consistency, preparation time that those guys have together just so outweighs what it would be with any other player.

Does the offense benefit from the cohesion? Or is it limited to the special teamers? I ask because Belichick says that the time they practice together and work together is important, but the contrarian point is that this time isn't all that important.

The one thing I would like for Manizel to do is hold for the PAT & FGs. Lanning has F'd up a few times, but having Johnny on the field would atleast have the outside rusher pause (if only for a second) due to his ability to take off.

I actually like this, not because Lanning does a poor job but I just feel a guy with Manziel's skill set would put more options on the table for the special teams.

so 2 to 4 plays with the field goal unit, 3 to 4 plays with a Manziel version of the wildcat at wide receiver. and another three or 4 plays in a series or two as quarterback.

that give Manziel up to 12 chances a game to make a big play. i like it.

Torn's nonsense aside, I am happy with how this team is handling Manziel. Get him on the field, give him a chance to make a play on the field but don't give him too much. Let him see the game, see the pre-snap.

Let Hoyer continue his solid play and let Manziel learn. Give him another year, maybe two, before he takes over. Pretty excited we have a good enough team to actually develop a guy like Manziel.

His only chance of lasting 5 years in this league is as a QB. Use him in the wildcat or as a receiver is inviting those animals on defense to tee off on him. He already has the biggest target on him in the NFL. Linebackers and safeties would be drooling at the thought of him being put in that position. He wouldn't last 3 games without getting injured. He needs to work hard at being a QB. He's way too small and slow to be a receiver. The only time that will ever work is from a gimmicky play like we saw Sunday. Unfortunately the element of surprise is gone and that play's chances of succeeding again are wildly diminished.

Youre underselling his potential as a holder.

Could save his career.
