#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So glad Pettine isn't just throwing him out there because he's a high pick. He's been terrible & needed to be sat while he earned more playing time.

How depressing it is that UDFA K'waun freaking Williams is getting PT over him? Thankfully Williams didn't need some excuse "acclimation" year.

You're so off-base it's not even funny.

No, you're not. You're just being a troll....

Williams is a nickel. It's almost a completely different position that what Gilbert's trained to do. They're not interchangeable positions and you should probably know that.
Skrine would be the Nickel if Gilbert was good enough to start. But Skrine is now the #2 CB. When Williams got hurt at the end of the 1st half, Gilbert went in for him. Gilbert is also playing now that Williams is hurt. Interchangeable enough.

I'd like to see Gilbert return some punts

They just moved Gilbert to #2 CB and Skrine to nickel so.... what are you trying to say?

They're not playing Gilbert as a nickel. It's not about talent, it's about fit and how the players are trained.

Your OP said Gilbert is losing PT to a UDFA but that's not really true since their roles are completely different.

Gilbert hasn't returned a punt since his freshman year in college...

am i confusing him with kickoff returns then? or was that freshman year, too

He is known for his kickoff returns in college, not punts. Although I'm sure he can do both.

No, not really. Skrine has no issue playing corner and nickel. Gilbert not being able to play it is an excuse, or if he really cant, more depressing.

Corner is just a confidence position.

Gilbert has all the physical ability and instincts, he just needs a little self belief.

He got thrust in to the lineup, got off to a horrible start and really had his confidence shaken.

He'll be fine. It's just about going back to the basics. He's starting to clean up some of the fundamentals he got lazy with in college. He's getting in and out of his back pedal faster and you can see it slowing down a bit for him.

Gilbert is still a work in progress but people worrying about him, at this point, are just being too reactionary. The corner position can be really tough on rookies, even one's drafted as high as JG.
