#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Huh, so all the "experts" & fans who were freaking out & calling Farmer a moron for not drafting a WR, let alone drafting one early, were pretty much overreacting...

Who'd a thunk it?

More like Hoyer is doing something with nothing. If people fail to realize that WR is a glaring need on this team, even with Josh Gordon eventually coming back, I don't understand what games you're watching. The Browns desperately need another player who can stretch the field.

We really need another guy that can blow the top off the defense. If we could come into next season with our WR core being Gordon, Cooper (or another high rookie WR), Hawkins, and Cameron with Tate, Crowell, and West in the backfield, then we could suddenly have an extremely explosive offense. We either take WR in the 1st or with a high 2nd, you can bank on that.

Honestly, if you say we've seen "nothing" from the receiving corps thus far, I have to question whether you're watching at all.

Is it the most talented group? No. Are they big names or elite talent? No, but they're playing very well thus far. I'm not really sure how anyone can argue otherwise.

It's certainly hyperbole, but I think the concern with the receiving corps is real. I think the schemes from week to week are getting guys open. Last week it was time for the tight ends to be the star, just as they were for stretches in the first Pittsburgh matchup. I do see trouble brewing with some short guys getting open on double moves deep as a long-term strategy. In this league, you need to find some size who get open on slants. You need guys who can wrestle the ball away while covered tight. I don't see that weapon in the repertoire aside from a healthy Cameron and Miles in the right situations. A high draft pick at receiver next draft isn't a knock on the job these guys are doing right now... it's just one of the weak positions of the team. Every team has them.

If the Rabbit gets hurt, we're in some trouble at WR. He's our only true speed/deep threat right now. And he will most likely get hurt.

I can honestly say that I can't remember a single play where we ran a quick slant, and I bet that has more to do with the fact that we haven't been in positions where we needed to hit a quick slant than not having someone who can run it.

We'll be getting something that resembles what you're talking about after week 10. I have a hunch.

Looks like Justin's baptism will be Sunday in Jacksonville.

I remember Shanahan trying to use post and slant routes with little success in the preseason. We are talking about a bread and butter route in pro offenses. Kudos to Shanahan for making an unorthodox play action offense that is more vertical work, but let's recognize that it is partly from necessity.

"Justin Gilbert is going to see a lot of time today"

Lord help us

I though he played fairly well out there. At least one positive to take away from the game.

He was the least of o̶u̶r̶ there worries today.
agreed with you and Q. He played well from what I saw after the first drive. I only saw the 1st half though, so I'll take your word for it.

Not a bad day for JG. I was worried about his tendency to bite too easily and become a long-ball liability.

Just for perspective's sake, the Browns just finished their 6th game this season. There's still plenty of growing for Justin to go thru.
