I hate when people are complaining how much guys are getting paid...is it your money??

This has repercussions for our team, yeah of course I don't mind Andy making a lot of money, he seems like a good guy. The issue I have is we may be spending 20+ million dollars between our two centers and neither guys provides what we need out of the center position. That kind of money being spent on these two centers is not good team management and will handcuff this team. This issue is magnified by Andy frequently being hurt, and he is starting to look old and slow.

We were going to be in the luxury tax regardless so why does it matter?

Awesome, Andy's getting paid 10 mill a year to be a 18 mpg role player.
You get a lot of flack here, but you raise a valid point. It seems very reckless allocating that much money to the center position, and then realizing you haven't fixed the center position.

Why is Andy getting no PT in the 4th quarter of these games? I thought Tristan was clearly overworked, and he was no longer providing the spark, just the usual Tristan-ing.

Andy is crafty, Tristan is not.

I don't care what anyone says 10 mil is WAY too much for Andy. What are we supposed to do when he gets hurt? Not only that, but if we pay TT 10 mil as well we are screwed for adding any more pieces to this team. Both of them are worth in the 5-6 mill range they are both hustle/energy players. This is exactly how we got stuck in Lbjs first run here when Ferry started giving out large multi-year contracts to players that didn't deserve them. With 10 mill you could get 2 solid bigs that do the same thing that AV does.

Whn is the last time Andy did his patented flop move? Gettin to old to hit the floor?

I don't know if you've seen the contracts that players get, especially bigs, but it is not as easy to find bigs such as AV and TT and pay them 5-6 million a year.

J.J. Hickson makes over 5 million a year, and his stats are as empty as they get. Hell JaVale McGee is one of the biggest dumbasses in the NBA, and he's making 11 MILLION this year. So, no, you can't pay TT or AV 5 million a year and expect them to stay, because that's not their NBA value. That's not even asking for a hometown discount, that's a slap in their face to even offer them that.

AV and TT stats are just as empty as JJ's. Actually JJ is a better player then both AV and TT. AV is much slower then he was 2 years ago. So both guys do need to be paid around the 5-8million range. Mcgee got that 11 million because he was beasting during the playoffs in his contract year. Mcgee deserves that type of pay he's big and he's a shot blocker. Problem with him is he needs more mins but he can't get use to that Denver altitude. He would be putting up around the same stats maybe even better then DeAndre Jordan if he got the mins.

The management is starting to look bad to me giving out that high of a contract to a player that's injured most of the time. The team is already stuck with Lebron's must have players of Miller and Jones. The team would be complete fools to pay TT anything close to 10 million. AV's contract is a poison contract and same would be said if TT got the same amount. These guys offer no shot blocking and both get bullied down low. The team only needs one of them.

I suppose the question is about sentimentality and culture. I'm not entirely sure if AV getting paid $10 million a year was solely based on his output on the court. I'd be more inclined to assume that his commitment to the city and the team combined with a solid relationship with LBJ and the fact that his work-rate and attitudes are the complete embodiment of the city and the people of Cleveland contributed significantly to him getting paid.

Sure, I'm not over the moon with the fact that he's getting $10 million a year. It is an overpay financially, whichever way you look at it. But if someone has to be overpaid for whatever reason in order to continue to deliver some of the less noticable elements of a basketball team, there's nobody more deserving than Anderson Varejao.

I get the vibe the same thing is starting to happen here that did when Ferry was gm.
LeBron's presence is putting major heat on griffin, which is going to lead to quick/irrational decisions that seem like build now scenarios that will backfire on the team in the years to come.

All Ferry's moves were panic moves to try and please Lebron that ended up handcuffing the team with a bunch of overpaid veterans and no trade assets. Luckily for Griffin, Grant built up years of assets and that's how he landed the big 3. (I even believe the Love move was too quick but that's another story).

Point being the front office needs to look past all the bullshit and not try and cater every little need to Lebron. Just cuz he says TT needs to get paid doesn't justify blindly handing out 10 million dollars contracts to average players. Take a page out of Riley and the Heat's FO and don't let him dictate the personnel as well.

Why pay Andy that much if you know he would stay getting paid 6m a year?
He isn't going anywhere, he loves the team. he's a reasonable guy just tell him he's injury prone and we need a backup center and 10m is too much for bringing a decent one.
Now how do we manage our assets, how do we get a good Big guy and a good perimeter defender?
This decision to pay a 33 year old veteran 10m is just bad, Marion is getting paid a veteran minimum why is Andy getting paid so much?
I don't get it.

I don't think it was a given that Andy would take some home town discount. Remember what happened in 2007 when he held out until December because he wanted more than MLE type money. He ended up signing an offer sheet with Charlotte on a 2 year deal and the Cavs matched.

He's a good guy but he's not stupid. He knows he would get a big contract by some team in free agency. Big men are always going to get paid and Griffin didn't want to take that risk.

I'm not mad at Andy's contract but I do wish they would've waited until the offseason to get it done.

Even at his age? it was a different time he got 50m for 5 years right?
what are we doing with TT then? :/

He signed for $50 mill in 2009. 2007 he held out til December because he wasn't happy with the contract offer.

Brendan Haywood got 6 yrs $55 million when he was 31 years old and with career averages of 6 pts and 6 rebs. If the Cavs didn't pay Andy some team would've taken a chance on him.

We still have plenty of assets to improve the team. Andy and/or Tristian will not hamper that. We still have draft picks, TPE, Brendan's contract. And some ring chasing vet will take the vet min or the mini MLE to play here.

If Gilbert is fine with opening his wallet, which it seems he is, they don't have much to worry about.
