Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Andy's contract is similar to Haywood's. The team wanted another chunk of non-guaranteed salary out there to make trades.

The advanced stats still like his game. He's got a very good TS% and he's been a net positive on offense & defense

Thanks, There is no debate that we all fans love Andy no matter what( me atleast)
but still, I want the team to have as much cap space as possible and that contract is abit over the top

Well here's the deal. The Cavs are not going to have any cap space. Love, Lebron, and Kyrie's contract pretty much guarantee that, even if the salary cap jumps up. So in order to make deals work when you are over the cap, it is really helpful to have some non-guaranteed contracts that are often more flexible & attractive in a trade than an expiring contract. In 2 years, Andy's contract will be an attractive trade chip for a team looking to save money, even if Andy can't play any more.

I'd also mention that once you see the contracts that go out next summer after the salary cap jumps, Andy's contract will not look so large.

Thanks for the reply.

to the people complaining about Andy...the guy is still above average player and those guys get paid well in the NBA

I think the people complaining about it are concerned about what he's going to look like 2 years from now as opposed to right now.

Well, that last season on the contract is fully non-guaranteed. Thus, making it a trade asset no matter how good or bad he is playing at that time.

This goes for Mike Miller too, but Andy wasn't in the greatest shape when the season began. This happens to older guys often. This was Andy's first summer as a married man and he vacationed more than he worked out. The month long World Cup being in Brazil didn't help. :chuckle:

Do I think Andy was overpaid? Probably a little. But, the fact that the last year is only partially guaranteed makes it very tradable next year even if his legs should fall off. So I don't see this contract being a major burden to the Cavs.

Andy will play his way into shape, as will Mike Miller. They will both be major contributors in the playoffs as long as they are healthy.

His rebounding may be down (though I think we all expected that anyway considering LeBron & Love are both great rebounders), but he's averaging 10.5/6.3/1.6 on 60% shooting. And last night proved that he's still vital to this team.

I preface this by saying I love the guy's energy and his constant movement... but it is a little annoying to see him cut right in the path of an open teammate. I get that he's just trying to help, but he needs to be more aware of the rest of the team and not just the guy with the ball.

Andy is very under the radar with this star studded team but he is quietly having a really solid start to the year.

i know everyone hates the offense running through andy, but he is a surgeon under the basket off the pnr

You know we won't trade Andy though. At least as long as LeBron is here.
